Job description

AMP is hiring a Sorter Operator in Portsmouth, Virginia.

A Sorter Operator is an individual who aids plant staff in preparing material for processing, baling, inventorying, and shipment. They are familiar or can become familiar with a fast-paced manufacturing environment and working safely.

As our Sorter Operator, you will work to:

  • Segregate various materials including cardboard, paper, plastic, and aluminum in a fast-paced environment.
  • Keep the plant and areas clean of debris.
  • Clean equipment as needed.
  • Maintain a reliable attendance record.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide comprehensive training for new employees, ensuring they are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Must be flexible

Required Skills:

  • Excellent teamwork skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to stand for eight or more hours with the occasional need to bend or squat
  • Ability to operate in a high speed and fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift 45 pounds repeatedly
  • Able to follow instructions as directed by the supervisor
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments.
