We are seeking an Assistant Group Supervisor of the Embedded Applications Group to help shape the direction and work for a multifaceted and passionate organization of 50+ engineers that crafts and delivers world class embedded software that enables our nation’s space exploration and national security.

As an Assistant Group Supervisor you will collaborate with the Group Supervisor to…

  • Develop strategic plans and the technical roadmap for the continuous advancement of the group’s technology, products, staff, and services such as spacecraft flight software engineering, high-fidelity real-time test environments, and autonomy systems.
  • Embrace changing business priorities to drive and shape the group’s technical roadmap for our Civil and National Security Space Mission Areas.
  • Oversee and manage the line organization including aligning group staff plans with program plans, group budgeting, training, staffing decisions and performance, maintaining facilities and equipment.
  • Cultivate a positive culture of empowered, engaged, communicative, and collaborative teams.
  • Mentor and guide staff at all levels of experience to help tailor their career journey and cultivate technical capabilities.
  • Support mission execution and steer the group’s technical quality and output.
  • Define annual group goals and propel them to completion.
  • Enlist group participation and innovative ideation for independent research and development (IRAD) and other funding proposal opportunities to advance our technical roadmap.
  • Lead technical efforts on projects in both Civil and National Security Space Mission Areas.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field.
  • At least 7+ years' experience in embedded software and system development, including proven experience in product development and test.
  • Previous experience supervising technical staff in either line or project lead roles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with hiring, training, performance management, and mentoring staff.
  • Ability to obtain a TS/SCI level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • A Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Previous experience as an Engineering Supervisor or Manager
  • Knowledge of NASA and DoD satellite systems and requirements.
  • Prior exoerience with NSS programs and development.
  • Experience with staff and resource management including ratings, budgeting, purchasing and business practices.
  • Experience with AS9100 compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience using APL and Sector policies, procedure and business systems.
  • An existing TS/SCI clearance.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
