Job Description:

The L3Harris Communication Systems (CS) segment Mission Critical Communications (MCC) is seeking a highly motivated, team oriented Senior Manager, Software Engineering to fill a key leadership role in the Communications Secure Products (CSP) team.  This position will be based in Columbia MD and offers a 9/80 work schedule.  The Senior Engineering Manager will oversee the Columbia portion of the CSP organization, consisting of approximately 30 engineers and engineering managers, as well as driving the design, development and government certification of complex communications systems.  Projects will range from development of embedded general purpose processor, cryptographic, and/or DSP software solutions for radio and/or other communications products. 

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and manage project execution over the full product life cycle to align with scope, budget and schedule.
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of best practices/processes for software design, code development, and release of software for use on multiple products.
  • Functional management of engineering managers and a group of developers for software in the tactical military radio domain.
  • Manage staffing allocations against defined engineering resource demands.
  • Support organizational development through recruiting, mentoring, career development, talent assessments and performance reviews of staff to ensure engineering skill sets and resource capacity to meet organization demands.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional geographically dispersed teams in product design, development, test, manufacturing, continuous improvement, logistics, product and program management and other groups including external customers as needed to define and execute radio product development projects and deliver high-quality products.
  • Support new business pursuits and proposals with estimates and technical input
  • This position requires the candidate to possess a DoD Secret Security clearance, and to maintain the clearance.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering discipline with a minimum 12  years of relevant experience developing and/or managing software engineering solutions (10 years with MS degree).
  • Active Secret U.S. DOD Security Clearance, or one that has lapsed for less than 2 years.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in agile software development methodologies using an iterative, time-boxed development process (SCRUM).
  • Experience/knowledge of Capability Maturity Model (CMM)/Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) systems and software development processes or other defined SW development process.
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Experience contributing to the development of software architectures.
  • Experience with TDD and OOA/OOD software development methodology.
  • Experience with GPP, DSP and CSS SW development for communications products.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on leadership of cross functional geographically dispersed teams
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to convey technical and business matters in a clear and logical manner.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Maryland is $161,500 - $300,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
