Northrop Grumman's Space Sector is seeking an Embedded Space Software Engineering Manager - Manager Level 2 to join our team in Linthicum, MD.

The manager will be responsible for providing technical oversight through the entire software development lifecycle (including design, development, integration, and maintenance) of software components along with support of system integration and test. Additionally, the manager will lead and guide a matrixed functional team of software engineers through software process, career development, and performance appraisals. The software manager will participate in proposal generation, staffing allocations, recruiting, and execution of software projects. The manager will guide their team in applying the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle in support of programs.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work.

Your Role and Impact:

The candidate should have experience in leading and coordinating a team through challenging software development activities. The manager must guide their team utilizing an Agile development approach with tasks including decomposition of requirements into agile features, software design, coding, testing, integration, and systems test to deliver enhanced secure capabilities. Strong communication and active leadership skills are vital to this position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with a minimum of 8 years of software development experience working on embedded real-time systems - OR - Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or another STEM discipline with 6 years of software development experience working on embedded real-time systems

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.Approval must be obtained within a reasonable timeframe, as determined by the company, to meet business needs. Not required to start, US Citizenship required.

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive software engineering/development experience in C++ or Python

  • Experience with embedded software development or software development that integrates and controls hardware

  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the software development lifecycle

  • Experience as a lead for a software development team and ability to provide direction to team members

  • Control Account Management experience in managing program schedule and budget data

  • Experience creating Agile roadmaps, plans, and executing them

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI

  • 7+ years of progressive Software Engineering/Development experience in C++ or Python

  • 3+ years of experience leading a software development team

  • Experience as an IPT lead

  • Experience as a scrum master and/or product owner

  • Experience in people management and managing team members on career development and performance

  • Experience managing a budget for technical activities

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills with the ability to solve issues and predict potential programmatic and technical risks

  • Experience with the Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket)

Primary Level Salary Range: $153,800.00 - $230,800.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
