Job description

Wells Fargo is seeking a leader to be part of the Web and Mobile Engineering organization within Digital Technology & Innovation and help shape the future of digital banking for more than 40 million online banking customers. The leader will be responsible for guiding the strategy, architecture, development, and delivery of the Wells Fargo Digital Web and Retail mobile app ecosystem and related Consumer Experiences (CX) across Web, iOS, and Android platforms.

As a technology leader, this role leads talented engineering teams that create intuitive, secure, and innovative web and mobile experiences that strengthen customer relationships and drive business growth. Responsibilities include defining web and mobile architecture, establishing engineering standards and best practices, driving platform modernization, and developing meaningful KPIs that measure quality, performance, and customer impact.

Success in this role requires a proven track record of innovation, technology leadership, and delivering large-scale customer-facing solutions. The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with a hands-on understanding of product and engineering challenges. In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of individual contributor specialty-domain engineer roles with low to moderate complexity and less experienced managers responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Engage with architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture to enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example cloud readiness, application modernization and data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to make decisions and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement culture
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with low to moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate and consult with the Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources for technology engineering including career development and performance management for engineers and managers on the team
  • Hire, mentor and guide talent development of direct reports to build the specialized domain experience and skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for the most challenging supported product areas/products


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of Specialty Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 2+ years of engineering management or technical leadership experience leading high-performing software development teams.
  • 7+ years of Strong hands-on experience delivering and supporting customer-facing web and mobile applications using React, Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK and Java.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams in the implementation of responsive design principles and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2), ensuring seamless, inclusive experiences across web and mobile platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience leading cross-functional teams responsible for digital customer experiences spanning web and mobile applications, and supporting platform services.
  • 5+ years of experience driving web and mobile application architecture, implementing CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, feature flagging, release management, App Store/Play Store delivery processes, and web and mobile engineering best practices.
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and containerized application environments.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience leading multiple mobile application teams or digital channels in a large enterprise environment.
  • Prior experience in financial services, fintech, banking, payments, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Experience with mobile platform governance, mobile security standards, application performance monitoring, and observability.
  • Familiarity with enterprise design systems and reusable UI component frameworks.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Kafka.
  • Understanding of mobile authentication, biometrics, OAuth, OpenID Connect, and customer identity solutions.
  • Familiarity with backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns and API gateway technologies.
  • Knowledge of API-driven architectures and integration patterns supporting mobile and web applications.
  • Experience leading Agile product teams utilizing modern engineering practices and metrics-driven delivery.
  • Strong understanding of microservices, observability, reliability engineering, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience establishing engineering standards, mentoring managers and senior engineers, and driving talent development initiatives.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to articulate technical tradeoffs to product, design, and executive audiences.


Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop engineering teams responsible for native mobile applications and digital customer experiences.
  • Establish technical vision, architecture direction, and engineering standards for mobile and web platforms.
  • Drive delivery execution across multiple teams while balancing customer experience, reliability, security, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Product, UX, Architecture, Security, and Platform Engineering organizations to deliver business outcomes.
  • Build an inclusive engineering culture focused on innovation, quality, continuous improvement, and talent development.
  • Champion engineering excellence through automation, testing, observability, performance optimization, and operational readiness.

Pay Range

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.

$191,000.00 - $305,000.00
