How does a Software Development Manager typically balance technical leadership with people management responsibilities?

As a Software Development Manager, you’ll find that balancing hands-on technical leadership with people management is a central part of the role. You’ll spend part of your time guiding architectural decisions and overseeing code quality, while also focusing on coaching, mentoring, and supporting your team’s professional growth. Effective delegation, setting clear priorities, and maintaining open communication with both developers and stakeholders are key to managing these dual responsibilities. Many managers also work closely with product managers, QA, and other departments to ensure alignment across projects.

What Does a Software Development Manager Do?

As a software development manager, your primary responsibilities are to oversee software development teams and to act as a liaison between your teams and senior management. You hire and train new staff, manage and evaluate existing developers, provide guidance on the design and implementation of new software applications, and ensure that projects stay on schedule and within budget. You collaborate with upper-level management and your developers to make sure that new and existing software applications meet business objectives.

What does a Software Development Manager do?

Job description

Overview

We’re building the go-to-market team for Base44, an AI-powered software development platform recently acquired by Wix. As our first Senior Tech Partnerships Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying, establishing, and nurturing strategic technology partnerships that accelerate our growth and amplify our platform’s impact.

This role is ideal for a dynamic, relationship-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and is passionate about building ecosystems around pioneering AI technology. You’ll play a foundational role in scaling our business, shaping our partner strategy, and working closely with both internal stakeholders and external partners. As our first partnerships leader, you’ll collaborate with our founders and Wix leadership to maximize Base44’s presence and value in the broader tech landscape.

  • Secure Key Partners: Pitch and close deals with tech vendors (like databases, payments, and CRMs) to expand our built-in features.
  • Align Product Roadmaps: Work with Base44 product teams to ensure partner APIs integrate smoothly into our "one-click" deployment system.
  • Drive Integration Launches: Coordinate with partners to launch new features and track user adoption metrics.
  • Improve Developer Tools: Collect technical feedback from partners to help our team improve Base44’s SDKs and plug-in tools.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute Base44’s technology partnerships strategy, identifying key partners to expand our built-in features.
  • Source, pitch, and establish alliances with leading technology vendors, including database, payment, and CRM platforms.
  • Negotiate and close partnership agreements that advance our business and technical objectives.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering teams to ensure partner APIs integrate smoothly into our deployment system.
  • Co-develop go-to-market initiatives and coordinate with partners to launch new integration features and track user adoption metrics.
  • Act as an advocate for partners internally, capturing technical feedback to help our team improve Base44’s SDKs and developer tools.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years in partnerships, business development, or alliances at a B2B technology company, preferably in SaaS, AI, developer tools, or cloud platforms.
  • Proven track record of sourcing, negotiating, and managing successful technology partnerships that deliver measurable business outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of the SaaS and AI ecosystem, with experience working on integrations, APIs, and technical solution alignment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial, strategic thinker who can independently drive initiatives from concept to execution in a startup environment.
  • Experienced in cross-functional collaboration, working closely with sales, product, and leadership teams.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM tools.
  • Bonus: Experience in developer relations, platform ecosystems, or building joint product integrations.
Additional Information

We’re Base44, a newly acquired part of Wix, on a mission to change how software gets built. Our AI-powered platform allows anyone to create custom software applications using natural language—no traditional coding required. We operate like a startup within Wix: fast-moving, collaborative, and focused on solving complex problems with simple, elegant solutions.

Expected base compensation salary range $210,000 - 250,000. In addition to the base pay this role includes variable compensation earned and company RSUs as part of the compensation package. Final package may vary and will be determined by various factors including location the role is expected to be performed, shift, candidate profile and ideal qualifications.

For U.S. employees, this role is currently eligible for a benefit package that includes competitive medical, dental and vision insurance, a retirement savings plan, wellness benefits, travel expenses and subsidized lunch no matter where you live. Other benefits vary from country to country. You’ll get a detailed offer at the final stages of the hiring process, though salary expectations may be discussed earlier in the process.
