Job description

Lighting Service Engineer

Location: Mobile, Alabama

Contract- 3 Years

Client- Alabama Power

Job Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lighting Service Engineer to support lighting design and maintenance activities for Southern Company operations. The ideal candidate will have prior co-op or work experience within SOCO's Distribution or Transmission functions, strong field readiness, and the ability to work independently in various environmental conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform lighting system design, inspection, and service support
  • Independently manage fieldwork, including driving between sites
  • Conduct outdoor assessments in extreme weather and uneven terrain
  • Use basic hand tools (e.g., hammer stakes) for field setup and validation
  • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders on lighting project requirements
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data input using Microsoft Office and internal tools
  • Track and report progress on lighting-related service tasks
  • Apply sound judgment and attention to detail in all aspects of work completion

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related Technical discipline
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle (car or truck) for job site visits
  • Ability to work outdoors in Alabama climate extremes (heat, cold, etc.)
  • Comfortable walking on uneven terrain and performing light physical labor
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior Southern Company (SOCO) Co-op or relevant utility experience
  • Lighting Design experience within a Distribution or Transmission context
  • Familiarity with APC priority computer programs
