Position Overview- SNF Billing Team Lead

The SNF Billing Team Lead will oversee a team of billers and report directly to the MCS Billing Director. This is a high-visibility, client-facing role requiring a tech-first mindset and the ability to leverage reporting tools, EMR (specifically PCC and Matrix) systems, and clearinghouse technology to optimize billing performance, enhance client satisfaction, and drive team effectiveness. This role is responsible for ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and accountability across billing operations while proactively identifying opportunities to improve outcomes and support client retention.

Key Results Area

  • Lead, mentor, and coach a team of billers to drive performance and accountability
  • Assign workloads, monitor productivity, and ensure timely completion of billing cycles
  • Conduct quality reviews and provide actionable feedback for continuous improvement
  • Support onboarding, training, and ongoing development of team members
  • Oversee end-to-end SNF billing and collections processes
  • Ensure claims accuracy and compliance with CMS, state Medicaid, and payer requirements
  • Review and manage appeals, claim edits, corrected claims, late charges, and reopenings
  • Validate authorizations, payer IDs, and benefit information
  • Supervise follow-up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims
  • Monitor A/R aging and implement strategies to reduce aged balances
  • Review ERA/EOBs to identify payment discrepancies and denial trends
  • Ensure timely submission of appeals, redeterminations, and reconsiderations
  • Oversee refunds and overpayment processing
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, HIPAA, and payer regulations
  • Support internal and external audits and ensure audit readiness
  • Track denial trends and recommend process improvements to reduce revenue leakage
  • Prepare and present billing, A/R, and performance reports to leadership
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and power user for SNF platforms (e.g., PointClickCare, MatrixCare, NetSmart)
  • Manage EDI workflows through clearinghouses (e.g., Ability, Waystar, Availity), including UB-04 claim requirements
  • Analyze reimbursement trends across NTA, Nursing, and Therapy components to identify optimization opportunities
  • Monitor first-pass clean claim rates and adherence to timely filing requirements specific to SNF billing
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:


5+ years in SNF Billing with at least 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role

Billing experience is a plus

Expert knowledge of PointClickCare (PCC) and MatrixCare

Advanced Excel skills including use of complex formulas for reconciliation and reporting

Deep understanding of Medicare, Medicare Advantage, secondary payers, and state-specific Medicaid billing requirements

Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and leadership, including participation in QBRs and operational reviews

Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Persistence and accountability in following up on outstanding claims and payments

Ability to meet strict billing deadlines

Strong organizational and time management skills
