Job description

Department Information This position is open to current Colorado residents only. Please note: This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies. The Division of Facilities Management - South District The Division of Facilities Management (DFM) is a customer-driven support organization responsible for operating, maintaining and managing the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards.

This is done in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, patients, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities, campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods. These services include the day-to-day facility maintenance and operational needs of buildings, grounds, custodial and fleet services. South District services the following facilities: Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Pueblo (CMHHIP) Pueblo Regional Center (PRC) Department of Corrections (DOC) Division of Youth Services (Zeb Pike, Spring Creek and Pueblo Youth Services Center) Veteran's Community Living Centers in the Southern District, as needed.

Description of Job This is a full-time, in-person and essential position. You are required to work at your assigned work location during your scheduled work times. Please note: Work arrangements are subject to change at any time.

This position provides the following services to all facilities served in the Southern District. Position is responsible for, but not limited to the following: Painting: Paint walls, equipment, buildings, casework, and other structural surfaces, using brushes, rollers, and spray guns. Surfaces may require removal of old paint to prepare the surface prior to painting.

Paint may require mixing of colors to obtain desired color or consistency. Cover surfaces with drop cloths or masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting. Fill cracks, holes, or joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other fillers, using caulking guns or putty knives.

Remove fixtures such as pictures, doorknobs, light fixtures, electric switch covers prior to painting. Prepare surfaces, using sandpaper, scrapers, brushes, steel wool, or sanding machines. Apply primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal and oils, latex, lacquers, urethane, epoxy, or stains for finish coats.

Calculate amounts of required materials and estimate costs, based on surface measurements. Read work orders or receive instructions from the supervisor to determine work requirements. Perform general Drywall duties: Hang, tape, texture, drywall, and plaster patch.

Some work involves working with fast drying materials. Construction of new walls and ceilings including framing. All duties may need to be performed in secure areas with patients or clients present in a hospital and institutional environment.

All duties will be performed in a different building located in widely spread-out locations requiring driving State vehicles from site to site. Maintenance Inspect facilities for necessary repairs such as burnt-out exit lights, responding to calls that are called in. Repair minor damage to facilities finish and systems.

Repair walls, ceilings, floors, and accentuated systems. Replace flooring materials and coverings, including floor tile, sheet goods, wall base and accessories, repair cabinet and counter tops to include millwork hardware. Secure windows damaged by clients.

Adjust door hinges to allow doors to close properly, adjust door closures. Replace burnt out light bulbs using the proper wattage, color, and voltage. Perform preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment to include greasing bearings, changing filters, changing belts on fan units, pumps, swamp coolers, etc.

Repair residential, institutional, and penal fixtures, i.e., dripping faucets, running water closets and urinals, to include but not limited to replace washers, seats, traps, valves, supply lines, p-traps, handles, diaphragms, vacuum breaker, and molded disks

Additional duties as assigned. Perform routine and scheduled snow removal; also apply ice melt as needed. Call Back applies when an eligible nonexempt employee is required to report to work before the start or after the end of a scheduled shift.

An eligible nonexempt employee does not have to be on call eligible to receive call back pay. If there is no release from work between the call back hours and regular shift, it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply; instead, if applicable, the nonexempt employee may earn overtime or compensatory time. When a nonexempt employee is called back, they are entitled to a minimum of two (2) hours of their regular base pay (call back pay) or pay for the actual amount of time spent responding to the call, whichever is greater.

Call back time is counted as work time. Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents and offenders of state institutions or state facilities.

Employees in essential positions can only be FLSA nonexempt and can be required to work unexpected or unusual work hours to perform the essential and/or emergency services of the department without delay and/or without interruption. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Experience Only: Applicants must have four years of full-time professional commercial and/or residential painting experience. OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or commercial and/or residential painting experience equal to four (4) years.

You must attach proof of your related education and/or apprenticeship program to this job application. Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications.

Conditions of Employment This position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application, and residency within the state throughout the duration of employment in this position. A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges. Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check. Must possess and maintain a valid non-restricted Colorado driver's license.

Out-of-State Driver's License holders must obtain a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver's License within 30 days of employment start date. Must successfully pass Motor Vehicle Check Travel - This position will be required to drive State Vehicles as part of daily work assignment from site to site equipped with tools to perform daily duties. Travel to training and meetings.

On occasion, this position travels to other districts. Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a document for a medical exemption or a letter for religious exemption. Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.

Must be available to respond in person to after hours calls via call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay and/or interruption. Will be required to work various hours for coverage, weather related issues and essential/emergency services outside of normal business hours. Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials - Proximity to moving, mechanical parts; Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals; Exposure to electrical shock, and or working in high exposed places.

Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must: Disclose that information on the application.
