Position Summary: The SMI (Serious Mental Illness) Program Manager is responsible for operational oversight, coordination, and development of the SMI program within Behavioral Health Services. This role provides leadership to SMI Case Managers, ensures delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care, and supports a psychiatry-driven model focused on improving outcomes for individuals with serious mental illness. The SMI Program Manager collaborates with psychiatry providers, crisis services, nursing, case management, and community partners to improve engagement in care, reduce hospitalizations, and enhance continuity of services. The position assists in monitoring patients under tribal and county court orders and supports coordination of court-ordered treatment processes.
Critical Tasks:
- Provides day-to-day operational oversight of the SMI program
- Supervises SMI Case Managers and related support staff
- Monitors caseload distribution and staffing ratios
- Ensures compliance with AHCCCS and tribal regulatory requirements
- Develops workflows and protocols for SMI services
- Collaborates closely with psychiatry providers supporting the SMI clinic
- Coordinates care for high-risk SMI patients
- Collaborates with legal, crisis, and court systems Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted Arizona clinical license (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LIAC or equivalent)
- Masters' Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or closely related field of study from an accredited university or college.
- Experience working with SMI and court-ordered population required
- Supervisory or leadership experience
- Knowledge of case management principles and behavioral health systems
- Three years' behavioral health experience
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
