Job description

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has empowered teams to manage work seamlessly and scale solutions smarter. Now, in our most ambitious chapter yet, we are uniting human teams with AI agents. By orchestrating the work agents do best, automating manual tasks and uncovering insights at scale, we create the space for people to focus on what truly matters: judgment, creativity, and big thinking. That is magic at work, and it's what we show up for every day.
Corporate Systems Engineering builds and operates the software platforms, integrations, and automations that power Smartsheet's core business functions across Finance, Sales/GTM, and People & Culture. Our team owns mission-critical systems and workflows that enable how the company hires, sells, bills, pays, reports, and scales. We operate at the intersection of software engineering, enterprise platforms, and business-critical data, treating internal systems with the same rigor, reliability, and product mindset as customer-facing software.
The Finance Systems team engineers and operates the platforms that support financial operations, including ERP, procurement, billing, and compliance. We work across configuration, extensibility, and integration to ensure systems are scalable, auditable, and resilient, treating code, configurations, and controls with the same rigor as software.
As a Senior Software Engineer I (Finance Systems), you will lead the design, build, and operation of systems and workflows that directly support business execution at scale. You will own complex technical initiatives, partner with Product Managers and stakeholders on technical roadmaps, and mentor junior engineers.
You will report into a Manager, Enterprise Systems, and can be based in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.
You Will:
  • Systems Architecture & Optimization: Engineer and lead the end-to-end lifecycle-analysis, prioritization, and technical implementation-of scalable process improvements within the Financial Systems ecosystem.
  • Scalable Infrastructure & M&A: Architect and facilitate the seamless integration of new subsidiaries and business ventures, treating the Financial Systems stack as a modular platform capable of rapid scaling and deployment.
  • System Configuration & Compliance: Implement programmatic system configurations that balance complex business logic with rigorous automated compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Technical Mentorship: Serve as a Lead Engineer, mentoring junior team members on configuration quality, system design patterns, and industry-standard technical best practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Forge high-impact partnerships with stakeholders to align technical system capabilities with long-term business strategy.
  • 3rd Party Lifecycle Management: Manage the full deployment and maintenance lifecycle of 3rd party bundles and plugins, ensuring technical compatibility and system stability through rigorous version control.
  • Technical Feasibility & Scoping: Partner with Product Managers to evaluate the technical feasibility of backlog items, translating business objectives into high-level system requirements and architectural blueprints.
  • Test-Driven Design: Collaborate with the development team to architect and execute comprehensive testing frameworks (Unit, UAT, Regression) for all new system solutions.
  • Security & ITGC Engineering: Design and enforce system controls compliant with SOX requirements and IT General Controls (ITGC), treating compliance as an integral component of the system's "Security-as-Code."
  • Vendor Engineering Liaison: Lead technical engagements with third-party vendors and professional services, acting as the primary technical advocate for the internal platform's integrity.
  • Platform Expertise: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Corporate Financial Systems stack providing high-tier technical consulting to internal users.
  • Participate in product support rotation and incident response helping improve operational excellence and mentor broader teams through root cause analysis, MTTR and other incident best practices.
  • Participate and lead design reviews and code reviews to ensure finance system architecture adheres to both functional and non-functional needs.

You Have:
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in IT or Financial systems configuration
  • Experience supporting Financial Systems in a multi-company / multi-national environment
  • Hands-on working experience in the configuration, customization, and implementation of corporate applications - NetSuite (including SuiteScript, SuiteFlow and Saved Searches), Coupa, Avalara, and Stripe
