Job Description Summary

The SBDC Student Consultant will provide consulting services in conjunction with SBDC consultants and staff to local business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.
Specific Duties
  • Responsible for providing counseling services in conjunction with SBDC consultants and staff on aspects of small business operations including but not limited to developing business plans, licenses/permits, market research, website development, digital marketing, small business loans, buying and selling a business, etc.
  • Conduct client counseling, document session notes, and follow-ups assist in verifying client outcomes and milestones and assist in the maintenance of data in the SBDC Client Activity Tracking System (NeoSerra).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Given the rapid pace of change and the support requirements for this position, training, and experience in the following computer programs is required: Desktop publishing, Word processing, Database management, and Excel.
  • Applicant must possess a professional demeanor and have an understanding of administrative procedures and policies.
  • Applicant must be able to multi-task when required and take initiative when supervision is minimal. Requires strong computer and internet research skills. Also calls for flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, project coordination experience, and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as outside community partners and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin)
  • Two years of administrative, clerical or office experience.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing and website development.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of market research tools.
  • Able to follow directions and execute with precision.
  • Able to apply knowledge in everyday work situations while utilizing independent judgment.

Benefits Summary
Employees are eligible for the following benefits:
One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.
University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan - can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.
In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.
Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
