Job description

ABOUT SLATE

At Slate, weโ€™re building safe, reliable vehicles that people can afford, personalize and loveโ€”and doing it here in the USA as part of our commitment to reindustrialization. The spirit of DIY and customization runs throughout every element of a Slate, because people should have control over how their trucks look, feel, and represent them.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Head of Facilities is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational oversight, and longโ€‘term planning of all corporate real estate and workplace environments across the organization's nonโ€‘manufacturing footprint. This role oversees the corporate headquarters in Troy, MI and satellite offices in Chicago, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Louisville, KY; and Los Angeles, CA, as well as future sales office expansions as the company grows. The Director partners closely with senior leadership to ensure that every facility reflects the company's operational standards, safety requirements, and culture โ€” delivering workplaces that enable productivity and represent the brand with professionalism.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Direct the day-to-day operations of all corporate and satellite office facilities, ensuring safe, clean, functional, and wellโ€‘maintained environments across all locations. Oversee building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and security systems, ensuring all are compliant and performing to standard. Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned downtime and extend the life of building assets. Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for landlords, property managers, and building ownership groups at all leased locations. Strategic Planning & Real Estate Lead facilities planning for future satellite and sales office openings, including site selection support, space programming, lease review coordination, and project delivery. Develop and maintain a multiโ€‘year capital improvement and portfolio roadmap aligned with business growth plans. Partner with HR, Finance, and department heads to plan for headcount growth, space utilization changes, and consolidation opportunities. Project Management Oversee construction, renovation, and tenant improvement projects from inception through completion, managing timelines, budgets, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Coordinate with architects, general contractors, and specialty consultants; ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Manage the buildout and commissioning of new sales offices as the company expands its geographic footprint. Vendor & Contract Management Source, negotiate, and manage contracts with facilities service providers including janitorial, security, landscaping, waste management and equipment maintenance vendors. Establish serviceโ€‘level agreements and hold vendors accountable to performance standards across all locations. Identify costโ€‘saving opportunities through competitive bidding, contract consolidation, and operational efficiency improvements. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure all facilities comply with local, state, and federal regulations including OSHA, ADA, fire codes, and environmental standards. Maintain current certificates of occupancy, permits, and inspection records for all locations. Develop and maintain emergency response plans, business continuity protocols, and workplace safety programs for each site. Budget & Financial Management Own and manage the operating facilities and capital budgets for all locations, delivering accurate forecasts and variance reporting to senior leadership. Identify and implement cost efficiencies without compromising quality or safety standards. Oversee facilitiesโ€‘related invoices, purchase orders, and accruals in coordination with Finance. Team Leadership Build, lead, and develop a facilities team capable of supporting a growing, geographically distributed portfolio. Establish and manage relationships with onโ€‘site facilities coordinators or building contacts at each satellite location. Foster a proactive, serviceโ€‘oriented culture within the facilities function.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent professional experience considered with a minimum of (10) ten years of related experience. Additional Requirements Demonstrated experience managing corporate office environments; automotive or manufacturingโ€‘adjacent industry. Experience in maintenance planning, scheduling, or facilities maintenance operations. Proven track record of delivering capital and tenant improvement projects on time and on budget. Strong knowledge of building systems, lease administration, vendor management, and facilities compliance requirements. Experience managing geographically dispersed facilities portfolios. Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency with facilities management software (CMMS, CAFM, or similar platforms) Preferred Qualifications CFM (Certified Facility Manager) or FMP designation through IFMA. LEED accreditation or experience managing green/sustainable facilities programs. Experience supporting rapid real estate expansion or new office buildouts. Familiarity with automotive corporate environments or Tier 1 supplier organizations. Experience supporting centralized or multiโ€‘site maintenance operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is based at corporate headquarters in Troy, MI with regular travel (estimated 20โ€“30%) to satellite office locations. Some after-hours and weekend availability may be required to support facility emergencies, project milestones, or critical maintenance activities across time zones. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship at this time.

Salary Range:

The compensation for this position is the range Slate reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including jobโ€‘related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; work location; and other relevant business and organizational factors. About Us

At Slate, weโ€™ve got one job: building a vehicle youโ€™ll fall in love with, right here in the USA. We believe that car buyersโ€”not car companiesโ€”should call the shots. We like looking at a road, not a screen. We donโ€™t like paying for stuff we donโ€™t need. We like picking out the stuff we do need. We think dings are badges, not blemishes. But we know not everyone likes what we like. So, we built you a Slate: you make it yours.
