Job description

Location: Slate Creek Elementary / School District

Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round

Schedule: Monday – Friday, School Hours (Between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM)

Are you a dedicated mental health clinician passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families? Prairie View is seeking a compassionate and skilled School-Based Mental Health Therapist to join our team at Slate Creek.

In this year-round role, you’ll work directly within the school environment during regular school hours, providing vital outpatient therapy, evaluations, and family support to help students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
  • Direct Clinical Care: Provide competent diagnostic evaluations (DSM-5), individual psychotherapy, family therapy, and case consultations tailored to children and adolescents.

  • Developmental & Diagnostic Assessment: Utilize a deep understanding of normative developmental stages, emotional factors, and biopsychosocial influences to craft individualized treatment interventions.

  • School & Team Collaboration: Partner closely with school administration, teachers, special education staff, and support teams to create a cohesive safety net for students.

  • Coordination of Care: Maintain open, regular communication with referral sources, external care providers, and treatment teams from intake through discharge.

  • Documentation & Compliance: Ensure timely, high-quality clinical records (completing evaluations and progress notes within 48 hours) while meeting encounter expectations and managed care authorization standards.

  • Team Engagement: Participate in clinical supervision, departmental meetings, and collaborative care planning with agency colleagues.

  • Minimum Education: Master's degree, with clinical emphasis preferred; QMHP designation required.
  • Minimum Experience: Practicum, internship, or other experience working with children, adolescents, and families in a mental health counseling capacity
  • Must have good listening skills, verbal skills, and written communication skills
  • Must have good diagnostic skills and the ability to observe patient demeanor and non-verbal communication for assessments
  • Must maintain Kansas State licensure and appropriate CEs
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with referral sources, external care providers, and school systems
  • Must have credentials, experience, or other data to be privileged to do outpatient admissions, individual therapy, family therapy, and collateral consultations
  • Must have solid understanding of current managed care practices and procedures
  • Must have excellent problem-solving/conflict resolution skills
  • Must be able to schedule flexibility to meet the needs of the program/agency
  • Must be proficient at basic keyboarding/word-processing skills
  • Must be able to pass Kansas Bureau of Investigation Screen and the Central Registry Screen for both adults and children
