The Role

Netflix is the fastest growing, most productive, and progressive film studio in Hollywood and, Netflix Series Animation + Kids & Family TV, as one of its major arms, is making a huge impact in the kids and family and animation space. Music Creative & Production provides premier music support to our productions and Netflix cross-functional partners by leveraging relationships and guiding the music creative, scoring, and budgeting process from development to launch. Our goal is to empower Netflix to entertain the world by deepening fan engagement and amplifying storytelling through music.

The successful candidate will excel at identifying and implementing cross-functional music production solutions that will support our animation productions and overall slate growth. Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Music Creative Production team members and studio executives (Content, Prod Management, Post Production, Legal, Finance), and other internal/external stakeholders to strategize and execute music objectives for Netflix Animation Series and live-action K & F Television, from the development phase through final delivery.

  • Music informed captain in global Netflix tooling, strategy, and operation initiatives to align with larger Netflix music strategy.

  • In alignment with Music Creative leads, strategize and create preliminary budgets and track all music contractual and hard costs throughout production on self-managed (and sometimes partner-managed) titles, ensuring cross-functional teams are updated.

  • In collaboration with Music Creatives, help train external production teams in the proper use and maintenance of the music tracker as the primary source of truth for downstream teams

  • Collaborate and strategize with Labor on union/guild (SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, AFM) music roles for onboarding and payment workflows and administer/file the appropriate paperwork for music talent.

  • In collaboration with Music Creative, Production, and Post Production, create music schedules that serve music talent needs that maintain alignment with production and post-production timelines and track music milestones for on-time music asset delivery.

  • Lead music workflow strategy meetings and implementation with operational cross-functional teams (Post Production, Dubbing, and Residuals)

  • Work closely with Music Business & Legal Affairs on union parameters and talent deal strategy to balance the creative needs of the title with budgetary parameters.

  • Determine recording session needs for songs and score and facilitate and schedule music recording sessions and travel - if applicable - within the music budget.

  • Schedule syncs, update agendas, and facilitate cross-functional and production team communication where needed.

  • Foster music production talent relationships by working closely with music personnel and vendors to ensure creative/production needs are met, and lines of communication remain open.

  • Track, process, and reconcile vendor and music talent payments in coordination with Finance and Business Affairs, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across all music-related expenditures.

  • Liaise with composers and contractors on auxiliary musician, singer, music editor, and engineer hires.

  • Lead and execute live-action and on-camera music production process; in collaboration with Music Creative, support the hiring, scheduling, and on-set management of music personnel for live-action musical productions.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to manage, facilitate, and verify accurate delivery of assets for dubbing, marketing, awards, and soundtrack releases.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience: 10 years of experience working in Film or Television music

  • Prior experience working in music production, music engineering/editing, or orchestra contracting

  • Highly organizational and comfortable creating and maintaining systems

  • Deep knowledge of union/guild rules and regulations (SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, AFM)

  • Knowledge of and passion for tv content and music in general

  • Knowledge of the music industry, digital streaming platforms, music publishing, music licensing, record labels, PROs, and music business affairs & legal a plus

  • Comfortability liaising and working with Legal, Labor Relations, and the Residuals team to provide historical data for back-end payments, get questions answered, etc.

  • Comfortability being project and talent facing

  • Team player with the ability to prioritize, respond, pivot quickly, think practically, positively, and be solution-oriented

  • Ability to work proactively, independently, and reliably on multiple projects under tight time frames in a fast-paced production environment

  • Strong working knowledge of Digital Audio Workstations (Avid ProTools/Logic Pro/Ableton/etc)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Open to feedback

  • Exercises good judgment and initiative when making decisions

  • Adaptable to learning, leading, and training on Netflix proprietary software and technology

  • Stays current with emerging music production tools, workflows, and technologies, with the ability to evaluate and implement new solutions that enhance efficiency and creativity across the music production pipeline.

Generally, our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $173,000.00 - $300,000.00.

We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
