Job description

As the lead electrical engineer for simple and combined cycle power plants, you bring people, ideas and opportunities together. You overcome challenges, have all costs and deadlines under control and set solutions in motion. You have a keen sense of new possibilities and recognize the potential of each team member. You understand technology and can inspire and motivate people - but above all, you can communicate well with our external and internal partners. You ensure that safety, health and environmental requirements are fulfilled.
The successful applicant for this position will work in an international and inter-disciplinary team setting and will be required to design, specify, and implement the assigned electrical equipment in a self-reliant work manner. Tasks include collaboration with customers, vendors, various engineering disciplines, bid management and supply chain management to develop and implement technical solutions ensuring the highest customer satisfaction and successful project implementation by Siemens Energy.
How You'll Make an Impact
Design and specification of electrical components in scope of the electrical engineering team for simple and combined cycle power plants for 60Hz applications such as:
  • Generator Step-Up and Auxiliary Transformers
  • Generator Circuit Breaker
  • Isolated Phase Bus / Non-Segregated Phase Bus
  • MV / LV Switchgear / Motor Control Center
  • Low Voltage Transformer (Dry and Oil Filled)
  • Battery, Charger, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)
  • Power Control Center (PCC) (containerized e-House)
  • Protection Relay Panels
  • Diesel Generators
Design is supported by Electrical System / Studies using ETAP or SKM:
  • Load Flow Study (Motor Starting)
  • Short Circuit Study
  • Grounding / Lightning Study
  • Relay Settings and Coordination
  • Familiarity with Cable Sizing, Raceways
  • Coordinate with Architect/Engineers, partners, and Customers to support timely transmittal and understanding of supplier technical documents. Review design documents submitted by suppliers and approved or comment.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for any or all the above components and systems. Ensure all components are thoroughly tested and meet the performance and quality requirements established in the technical specification.
  • Site Support: Support commissioning and start-up activities for any or all the above components and systems. Conduct readiness reviews and participate in pre-commissioning activities with supplier Technical Field Assistants (TFAs).
  • Contribute to the development of electrical concepts and system designs for reference power plants and their project specific adaptation serving proposal activities and new unit project implementations.
  • Perform Overall System Review for the electrical scope of the Simple and Combined Cycle Power Plants and act as a Chief Architect of the Electrical Design being an expert in Code Compliance (NEC, IEEE, ANSI)

What You Bring
  • University or College degree within the field of Electrical Engineering
  • 5 + years of experience in related Electrical Engineering fields from the power generation, power transmission, power distribution and EPC market
  • Knowledge of standards such as NEC / IEEE / ANSI and NERC for power plant electrical equipment
  • Site construction and/or commissioning experience with the above equipment
  • Ability to lead an international, globally dispersed team, combined with good communication and coordination skills to achieve high performing results
  • Flexibility and willingness to be present for limited periods (approximately 10% travel) on project sites, and support meetings with customers and other third-party companies around the globe, per project needs.
  • Openness to new technologies and processes as well as critical thinking are expected personality traits.
  • Knowledge of process communication protocols like Modbus, DNP3 or IEC 61850.
