Pacific Life is actively seeking a Data Engineer II to join our Customer Data team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is not a remote position and will be on-site starting June 2026.
As a Data Engineer II, you will contribute to the design, development, and support of Pacific Life's customer data platform, primarily within an existing Snowflake environment hosted on AWS. This role supports ongoing customer data initiatives and operates as part of a collaborative data engineering team within the Corporate division. The Data Engineer II applies established data engineering practices while building knowledge of Pacific Life systems, data, and business processes.
How you'll help move us forward:
  • Design, build, test, and support ETL/ELT data pipelines that ingest and transform customer data into an existing Snowflake platform on AWS.
  • Develop and maintain data transformations and models using tools such as dbt and Matillion, following established development standards and patterns.
  • Participate in Agile delivery processes, contributing to sprint planning, development, testing, and deployment activities using Azure DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Collaborate with senior data engineers, architects, and business partners to understand data requirements, analyze solutions, and deliver reliable customer data assets.
  • Utilize approved AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and efficiency while adhering to Pacific Life data governance, security, and quality standards.

The experience you bring:
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, or a related technical role; Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL-based data platforms, ETL/ELT development, and modern cloud or MPP data environments (e.g., Snowflake).
  • Working knowledge of AWS, dbt, Matillion, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps, or comparable tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language such as Python or Java.
  • Ability to solve a range of straightforward technical problems using established processes, while receiving moderate guidance and direction.

  • Cloud or data engineering certifications (AWS, Azure, or equivalent).
  • Exposure to big data processing frameworks or platforms (e.g., Spark).
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Claude) to support data engineering workflows.

Base Pay Range:
The base pay range noted represents the company's good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
$93,690.00 - $114,510.00
