What is a Shriners job?

Shriners are members of Shriners International, a fraternal organization focused on fellowship, philanthropy, and community service. Their primary charitable mission is supporting Shriners Children's, a network of hospitals providing specialized pediatric care. While being a Shriner is a voluntary role, many members participate in fundraising, organizing events, and promoting awareness for their cause. Some may also work directly with hospitals or transportation services to assist families in need.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shriner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shriner, individuals should have a commitment to philanthropy, community service, and active participation in fraternal organizations, typically as a Master Mason in good standing. Familiarity with event planning tools, fundraising platforms, and organizational systems is often helpful. Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and enthusiasm for volunteerism distinguish successful members. These qualities are essential for supporting charitable initiatives, organizing impactful events, and fostering camaraderie within the fraternity.

What is the work environment like for administrative professionals at Shriners Hospitals for Children?

Administrative professionals at Shriners Hospitals for Children often work in a collaborative, mission-driven environment that emphasizes teamwork and compassion. Daily responsibilities may include scheduling appointments, managing patient records, supporting clinical staff, and interacting with patients and families. The work can be fast-paced, especially in patient-facing roles, but it is also highly rewarding due to the organization's focus on providing care to children regardless of families' ability to pay. There are opportunities for professional development and advancement within the organization, especially for those who demonstrate initiative and a commitment to the mission.

What are Shriners?

Shriners are members of Shriners International, a fraternity known for its philanthropic work, especially in supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children. The organization is composed of men who are also Freemasons, and it emphasizes fellowship, fun, and charity. Shriners are easily recognized by their distinctive red fezzes and active participation in community events and parades. Their primary mission is to raise funds and awareness for specialized pediatric medical care, research, and education.

Job Overview

Shriners Children's Las Vegas is seeking a fulltime Pediatric Spine Surgeon to join our expanding orthopedic program and help build a premier regional destination for complex pediatric spine care. The surgeon will provide advanced surgical and nonsurgical treatment for a full spectrum of spinal deformities and conditions, including adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), complex neuromuscular spine disorders, and other challenging pathologies. Experience with halo traction is highly valued.

This position offers exceptional flexibility: the surgeon may choose to practice a 100% spinefocused clinical load or incorporate general pediatric orthopedic cases based on personal interest. The role is supported by a growing multidisciplinary team, robust APP support as volumes increase, and a strong institutional commitment to program development.

Call responsibilities are designed to support worklife balance and program growth. Call is fully optional and compensated separately until 2030. With the opening of Intermountain's dedicated children's hospital, call will transition to a required schedule, anticipated at no more than 1 in 5 days.

The position includes meaningful academic engagement, with opportunities for faculty appointment through UNLV and active involvement in resident and fellow education. The surgeon will work closely with UNLV orthopedic residents, an Air Force Orthopedic PA Fellow, and potentially an additional Valley Hospital resident as clinical volumes expand.

This is an outstanding opportunity for surgeons at any career stage, including recent fellowship graduates, to join a missiondriven organization with strong institutional support, a robust referral base, and the ability to make a lasting impact on children and families across the region.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and manage pediatric spinal deformities, congenital spine disorders, neuromuscular spine conditions, traumarelated spine injuries, and other complex spinal pathologies
  • Perform advanced pediatric spine surgeries, including deformity correction and reconstructive procedures
  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated, comprehensive care
