CHD’s Shared Living program provides an alternative residential setting to the 24-hour group home. This model provides an opportunity for an individual who is receiving services through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to live with someone who wants to make an individual with intellectual disabilities part of their life and home.

Shared Living is like adding a member to your household — similar to the adoption process. It is expected that the individual would join in social activities as appropriate, and be included in the daily life and schedule of the home. Shared living care is tailored to the needs of the individual, but most individuals need help with the activities of daily life, including meal preparation, medication management, financial transactions, and transportation to appointments. They also will look to the shared living provider to be a source of social engagement and community. The female being served is unable to be in a family setting or atmosphere, but will benefit from a one-on-one caregiving relationship with a female shared living provider.

This is a shared living position for the greater Springfield area. The individual receives services during the day and some hours during weeknights and weekend hours as a relief for the shared living provider. Shared living provider would help to creatively engage her in social experiences for her recreational/social needs.

Requirements A calm, clean home and a person who has at least three years of experience working in the field of human services with DDS clients or mental health individuals. Ability to optimize client independence and provide informal counseling/guidance and help to relieve anxieties. CPR certification and past experience being a shared living provider or previous foster parent.

This is a tiered salary starting at $30,000 annually. Salary will be based on clients needs and DDS approval.
