Job Summary:
Essential Duties
  • This position assures plant compliance (both SGI employees and outside contractors) with all MSHA, NIOSH, state, and local regulations through training and auditing activities. Develop and implement SGI safety policies and required training.
  • Acts as a champion for safety.
  • Accompanies Regulatory inspectors while on-site.
  • Back-up the Environmental Coordinator as needed.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's Degree B.S. Degree in Safety Management or related field Required
  • 5+ Years Safety Management in a mining environment, will consider comparable OSHA

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must have strong leadership skills to drive plant to a world class Safety culture
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of MSHA Part 46, 56, and 50 /NIOSH regulations/requirements,
  • Strategic and systematic in approach
  • Understanding of BBS Programs
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Solid knowledge of Safety management systems
  • Effective verbal and written communicator
  • Skilled at hazard recognition and corrective action
  • Strong incident investigation skills including root cause analysis
  • Must be strong advocate for world class safety culture
  • Must be tactical in scope of work and with a hands-on approach
  • Must be able to work collaboratively to achieve site goals and execute action plans
  • Negotiation skills Job Responsibilities
  • Developing a culture of Safety First
  • Champion, drive, and lead safety improvements within the SGI plant
  • Participate in the Safety Steering Committee
  • Champion BBS efforts to minimize all injuries
  • Facilitate all MSHA audits and inspections
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and updated records. Organize all files, and documents for regulatory compliance
  • Audit plant Safety program/ expectations and MSHA compliance
  • Develop corrective action plans and follow up until completed and sustained
  • Manage MSHA required training and documentation
  • Track and manage BBS Action Plans
  • Conduct industrial hygiene sampling, reporting, and compliance. Respirator Fit Tests
  • Develop, implement, and sustain SGI specific Safety & Health policies and training
  • Conducts all plant Safety visits/tours by governmental agencies
  • Conduct accident investigations, develop response to MSHA citations and challenges to citations if warranted
  • Responsible for budgeting and spending within safety departments.
  • Routinely audit contractors for SGI/MSHA compliance
  • Audit safety compliance of all major capital projects
  • Audit safety of activities during any major shutdown
  • Make recommendations to improve current controls and procedures Working Conditions Work entails coordination and/or supervision with all plant personnel.
