Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area.  Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

The CGS Aide supports the certified catechist in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program by helping prepare and maintain the atrium environment, assisting children in their spiritual work, and fostering a peaceful, reverent atmosphere. Rooted in the Montessori approach and the Catholic faith, the CGS Aide plays a key role in nurturing the child’s personal relationship with God through hands-on, prayerful experiences.

Job Responsibilities
Support in Spiritual Formation
  • Assist the catechist in creating a sacred, calm, and respectful atrium environment that invites prayer and reflection.

  • Model quiet reverence, joy, and attentiveness to the presence of God in the atrium.

  • Support children as they engage in individual or small-group work, helping them with materials as needed.

Atrium Preparation & Environment
  • Help set up and organize the atrium before and after sessions.

  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the space to preserve its sacred character.

  • Assist in preparing, repairing, and organizing materials in accordance with the CGS curriculum.

  • Help track and organize supplies for material making and upkeep.

Child Support & Observation
  • Observe children during atrium sessions, noting their engagement and needs, and communicate relevant insights to the catechist.

  • Provide gentle guidance to encourage independent and respectful work with materials.

  • Support children during transitions and moments of reflection or prayer.

Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with the catechist and parish or school staff to ensure a consistent and effective catechetical experience.

  • Attend occasional planning meetings, formation sessions, and trainings as required.

  • Participate in community events, celebrations, or sacramental preparation support as needed.

Job Requirements
  • Active, practicing Catholic who supports the mission and spirituality of the CGS program.

  • Desire to work with children in a sacred, developmentally appropriate way.

  • Experience working with children in a faith-based or educational setting is preferred.

  • Familiarity with CGS or Montessori-based education is a plus.

  • Willingness to grow spiritually and professionally through training and observation.

  • Reliable, respectful, and able to maintain the prayerful tone of the atrium.
