Job description

Position Summary: A server takes orders and delivers food and beverages. This position ensures the quality of the food and overall guest experience is excellent. A server is responsible for all billing and payment processing.
Reports to: Food and Beverage Manager
Job Tasks
  • Prepare tables for meals, including the complete set up of linens, silverware and glassware.
  • Perform light food preparation duties including bread, salad preparation, appetizers and desert presentation.
  • Greet guests in a professional manner and provide education about the food and beverage menus, how menu items are prepared, the ingredients used and the different cooking methods.
  • Inform customers of daily specials.
  • Check food and beverages for quality and presentation before serving to guest.
  • Serve food and beverage to guests.
  • Prepare and serve specialty dishes tableside as required.
  • Check identification to ensure that guests meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  • Provide wine recommendations to customers.
  • Deliver wine to table with appropriate glasses and use proper corkage and pouring techniques.
  • Receive guest payments and process transactions.
  • Clear and clean tables promptly according to proper sanitation standards.

Complete side duties as required including, polishing silverware, restaurant set up, and filling condiments.

Customer Service: Servers must consistently be able to assess, anticipate and meet guests' needs and respond quickly without losing focus or projecting a mood that detracts from guests' dining experience. This requires practical knowledge of industry customer service standards.
Communication: Servers must clearly communicate in a professional manner with guests, vendors, coworkers and management. They must understand instructions, read written company memorandums and communicate when he or she needs more direction.
Interpersonal Relationships: A server must adapt to different personalities of guests and coworkers without losing focus. Extreme familiarity or conflicts with coworkers often weaken a team-oriented work environment.
Sales Techniques and Customer Influence: Must understand products and services and understand customer needs clearly. Must gain experience and become current in state-of-the-art sales methods. Must meet sales goals.
Performing General Physical Activities: Servers must perform physical activities in a variety of environmental conditions that require moderate strength including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, and handling of materials. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to carry trays filled with multiple dishes and drinks.
Problem Solving and Conflict Management: Must recognize a problem when it arises and be able to resolve it appropriately by using good judgement, tact and initiative according to company policy and procedure.
Analytical Skills: Must use logic and reasoning to identify solutions and alternatives for a successful outcome. Must verify information by compiling, coding and calculating data.
Technical Skills: Must know or quickly learn general accounting and mathematical skills. Must correctly operate various mechanical devices such as cash registers, mixers and hot beverage makers.
Language Skills: Must speak and write with excellent command of the English language including proper spelling and grammar.
Flexibility: Must work overtime when needed and assist the workload of others.
