What is a brother?

In a religious context, 'brother' refers to a male member of a Christian religious order who is not ordained as a priest. Brothers dedicate their lives to serving their faith community through prayer, education, social work, or other ministries. They often live in a community, follow a specific rule of life, and take vows such as poverty, chastity, and obedience. Unlike priests, brothers do not perform sacramental duties, but they play an important role in supporting the mission of their religious community.

Job description

Brother Wolf is an Italian aperitivo bar in downtown Knoxville, now in our fifth year. We built this place around a specific idea: that the hours before dinner deserves as much rigor as dinner itself. That means Negroni variations and spritzes made with intent, an amaro and vermouth selection deep enough to get lost in, a tight list of Italian wines by the glass, and small plates coming out of the kitchen all night. We're part of a small Knoxville group that also includes Osteria Stella and Lilou Brasserie, which means real opportunity to grow across concepts for people who want it.

We're hiring a bartender. This is a hands-on role behind a busy, high-volume bar where hospitality and technique carry equal weight. You'll be building cocktails to spec at pace, guiding guests through a list that includes a lot of unfamiliar Italian bottles, running your own well, and holding the standard on prep, mise, and cleanliness. Our bar is the room — there's no hiding behind a service station — so presence, warmth, and the ability to read a guest matter enormously.

The right person has solid craft cocktail experience, moves cleanly and quickly, and is genuinely curious about Italian spirits, amari, and wine. You don't need to arrive knowing the difference between Cynar and Cardamaro, but you should want to. We invest heavily in staff education — regular tastings, producer visits, structured training — and we expect people to take it seriously. Reliability, a level head on a busy night, and treating your teammates well are non-negotiable.
