Job description

Senior Trim Engineer - Troy, Michigan
Open-Ended Contract Position
Pay Rate: $50.00-$60.00 per hour (based on proven work history)
Travel Required: 35-40%
The primary mission of this role is to develop and digitize high-quality patterns that evolve through collaboration with product and manufacturing engineers, as well as corporate facilities, to enable efficient high-volume manufacturing. This position also supports ongoing production needs, prototype development, and advanced projects while assisting in resolving build and quality issues alongside Product Engineering and cross-functional teams.
Position Specific Requirements of the Senior Trim Engineer:
  • Expertise in pattern development, strategic seam placement, and sewing processes
  • Proficiency with Gerber cutting systems and Lectra Accumark software (experience with embroidery software is a plus)
  • Strong understanding of seam alignment techniques
  • Knowledge of adhesives, application methods, and bonding materials
  • Ability to troubleshoot and refine processes for wrapping parts
  • Skilled in sewing operations, including troubleshooting and optimization
  • Competence in wrapping automotive interior components with materials such as leather, TPO, PVC, and other syntehtics
  • Forward-thinking mindset to anticipate and mitigate potential issues in production cutting, sewing, and wrapping
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Capability to evaluate and provide feedback on cut, sew, and wrap design criteria and feasibility to engineering and design teams
  • Flexibility and open-minded approach to process development and innovation

Knowledge and Skills Requirements of the Senior Trim Engineer:
  • Advanced pattern-making skills (required)
  • Comfortable collaborating closely with internal and external customers
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed, including weekends
  • Ability to follow instructions while providing feedback
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and developing wrapping processes
  • Expertise in sewing and resolving sewing-related issues
  • Regular travel to production facilities including internationally, to support manufacturing operations
  • Must be able to travel up to (2) weeks per month during peak program launch periods to support plant activities
  • Participate in all required corporate training, education workshops, classes, and/or seminars
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace in compliance with 5S standards
  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Adapt to multitasking and handle shifting priorities with little advance notice
  • Function effectively as a collaborative team member, contributing to group success
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. repeatedly per shift, and to kneel, reach, and maneuver materials as needed for job duties
