Job Title:
Sr. Project Engineer
Reporting To:

Work Schedule:
Onsite - Buffalo, NY
Moog Space and Defense Group (SDG) is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense investments and the continued human exploration of space. The SDG Defense team's programs span various domains including ground vehicle solutions, naval applications, and tactical missiles. The Defense team is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to provide engineering and project leadership for development projects. You will report to the Defense Staff Project and Systems Engineering Manager and will have an onsite work schedule in East Aurora, NY.
The Senior Project Engineer is a primary leader and contributor to the analysis, conceptual design, development, and testing of complex control hardware used on military, commercial and NASA vehicles and equipment. Moog products are unique, requiring tailored designs for each customer through both new concepts and adaptations of existing hardware. In this role, you will operate either independently or as part of a larger design and development team including engineers across various departments. The primary focus is system/component performance and integration, while maintaining defined budget and schedule milestones. You will coordinate the work of drafters, technicians, designers, analysts, manufacturing engineers and others who assist in specific assignments. Facilitative leadership will also be required with program management, quality engineering, and operations. This is a demanding role that heavily relies on your knowledge, experience, and skills in technical coordination and communication.
To be considered for the Senior Project Engineer role, here's what you need to bring with you:
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline with 10 years of engineering experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience leading technical development projects or related project engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding achieved through experience in the design, analysis, development, and production of complex electromechanical hardware.
  • Experience executing programs following a phased (gated) program/project life cycle (e.g., NASA Space Flight Project Life Cycle, Moog Design and Development Process or other similar processes)
  • Substantial experience interfacing with technical customers
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or comparable scheduling software.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Experience with Teamcenter or other Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.
  • The ability to effectively communicate technical and programmatic information and to manage competing priorities of multiple stakeholders.

As a Senior Project Engineer, you will:
  • Develop new product requirements through consulting with customers and sales personnel.
  • Be the technical point-of-contact on the program when interfacing with the customer and with Moog management, requiring a firm grasp of program-wide activities.
  • Establish and monitor engineering project budgets and schedules.
  • Validate conceptual problem solutions through trade studies and analyses.
  • Prepare successful proposal designs, cost estimates, and shoulder the responsibility for writing the technical volume.
  • Operate as a key element in a team of creative, independent individuals. Represent Moog in a manner consistent with its technical reputation.
  • Create reliable designs through a comprehensive experimental development test program.
  • Document designs, analyses, and test results with accurate and concise reports.
  • Consult on new product and market development efforts. Assist in interviewing, training, and mentoring junior engineers.
