Job description

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Project Engineer I to lead the technical execution and management of complex civil engineer projects. The Senior Project Engineer I provides direction to project teams, delivers high-quality and proactive design solutions, and serves as a key liaison between clients, design partners, and internal staff. This role balances technical expertise, project management, and mentorship while making informed decisions that impact project scope, schedule, budget, and overall project success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently applies extensive and diverse knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Leads tasks of all complexities and projects of moderately complex scopes. Becomes a resource for the team.
  • Demonstrates to the team how to work through challenging situations in a positive, professional manner.
  • Continues to apply extra effort and seek out new opportunities and is able to get other team members to do the same through example. Trust becomes a leadership quality on the team in both directions.
  • Upholds ethical and professional behavior and mentors others through their actions.
  • Begins turning interactions into professional relationships and begins to proactive promote the company.
  • Prepares complete plans, specifications, and other project documents with limited oversight.
  • Is responsible for all project documentation by using subordinates to accomplish a significant portion of the work.
  • Can readily identify all project components and identify critical path items to ensure workflow is efficient.
  • Is able to track self, subordinate, and external team members timeframes and keep the supervisor informed for progress in a timely manor.
  • Has a good understanding of all contract language and terms and risk elements, and can assist in developing scopes and budgets and begins to monitor budgets.
  • Modifies or extends accepted theories and practices of civil engineering to complete assignments.
  • Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, risk levels, and client goals in daily design solutions.
  • Proposed solutions are on target. Solutions are now becoming creative and not solely engineering based. Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Continue to maintain an expert status in one or more technical areas while beginning to explore non-technical aspects of the profession that are of interest.
  • Supports the team via individual work, organization of tasks, and interjection of ideas on how best to complete the task/project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineering License (highly preferred).
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • An expert in the use of all relevant software (AutoCAD, Civil 3d, SLAMM, etc.) and can mentor others on proper and efficient use along with rational behind the design methods.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to accept responsibility for reviewing subordinates work and provides regular feedback. Only major and critical path items require discussion with supervisor.
