Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Engineer is the 4th level of progression on the Engineering Technical Career Path for individuals who have demonstrated requisite fulfillment of high-competency in engineering skills and aptitude. The position of Senior Engineer is intended for individuals who aspire to reach the highest levels of technical expertise. This role can be linked to either a specific product line to technical discipline. A suffix designating a distinction to a technical discipline or equipment line is customary (i.e. Senior Engineer, Aerodynamics or Senior Engineer, Axial Compressors.) The Senior Engineer will lead projects involving the inspection, disposition, modeling and design calculations associated with multiple equipment lines. The Senior Engineer will serve as a mentor to lesser-experienced engineers for the purpose of knowledge sharing and training in their focused area of expertise. Daily responsibilities typically involve approval of inspection results, approval of drawings and layouts, writing technical reports, performance of design calculations, electronic modeling of components, and presentation of results to a wide range of individuals both within and outside the organization. The Senior Engineer will be expected to develop new and novel approaches to problem solving by staying abreast of the latest industry trends and available technologies. Individuals will also be expected to technically lead remote projects that may include travel to other physical locations in performing field investigations, inspections or to render engineering disposition. Individuals at the Senior Engineer level are expected to have a working understanding of the field operation of equipment and relate that operation back to their design inputs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as a technical leader in the design, development, and analysis of product designs which meet the function, cost, reliability, manufacturability and safety requirements of RMS.
  2. Continuously hone engineering skills to the highest level.
  3. Provide guidance to lower-graded engineers, share knowledge and serve as mentor.
  4. Lead engineering analyses for projects to include complex designs and advanced calculations.
  5. Independently review inspection reports and render engineering dispositions in accordance with established standards.
  6. Continuously improve design techniques for efficiency and accuracy.
  7. Provide guidance to designers on 2D and 3D CAD layout creation and machine redesign.
  8. Review and approve detail design drawings and machine layouts.
  9. Exhibit high-proficiency in running engineering software such as 3D CAD modeling design software and/or specialized software particular to a specific technical discipline such as aerodynamics, Rotodynamics or Structural Analysis.
  10. Demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental technical disciplines of Rotordynamics, Structural Analysis, Aerodynamics, and possibly begin to develop an expertise in one of those areas.
  11. Be capable of leading remote field installation and start-up of equipment.
  12. Work within budgets, schedules and resources on multiple projects.
  13. Effectively communicate information across all levels of the organization as well as externally to customers and the industrial community.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Demonstrated proficiency with the engineering technical disciplines of RMS product lines.
  2. Proficiency with fundamental design aspects and operation of the full range of RMS' entire product line.
  3. Demonstrated proficiency with specialized design tools and software utilized within RMS. With specialization in at least one notable technical discipline.
  4. Proven track record in meeting deadlines & commitments.
  5. Exceptional problem solving, organizational and analytical skills.
  6. Strong project leadership skills.
  7. Mechanical aptitude for machinery and ability to create or offer improvements to drawings, engineering standards, inspection reports and other service-related documents.
  8. Ability to manage multiple projects and establish priorities and schedules.
  9. Independently make decisions consistent with knowledge/experience level.
  10. Ability to communicate very effectively in speech and in writing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education: 4 year Engineering Degree (mechanical preferred). Advanced degree is beneficial.
  2. Training Requirements: High proficiency with solid modeling software (Soldworks preferred), computational analytical tools (such as ANSYS), specialized RMS design application software, and general office software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

OTHER INFORMATION:

  1. Travel may be required. Travel time is expected to be between 5% - 15%.
  2. This is a full-time position based in our Menasha, WI office. There is a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours including evenings or weekends may be required based on engineering or project needs.
  3. This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check.
