Description

The Sr. Operations Technician is responsible for the receipt, inventory, storage, withdrawal and shipment of biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials from multiple commercial and government clients. These materials are stored at temperatures ranging from ambient (room temperature) to -196°C with potentially hazardous properties. This position uses database applications and standard precautionary procedures to work independently, be self-directed, communicate effectively, and use good judgment when making decisions. Internal or external client interaction occurs under the guidance of experienced professional or technical staff. This position may also participate in the assembly of kits and label printing. As a Sr. Technician, this position evaluates and orders materials needed for specific laboratory/repository tasks applying knowledge of product and production processes and acts as an on‐the‐floor first line resource/responder to database trouble‐shooting and queries by staff/clients. Internal or external client interaction is related to customer service solutions of moderate effect to the client. This position requires a high level of complexity in implementation of increasingly diverse knowledge of technical, operative or administrative methods and practices found within the repository industry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Must be able to perform Operations Technician 1 duties: • Prepares samples or clinical agents for pickups, courier deliveries, and shipments. • Works closely with managers to support customer inquiries, discrepancies, inventory maintenance and database updates. • Responsible for using an inventory management system for data entry, sample tracking, and management of samples. • Maintains files for validation of data and preparation of queries, reviews accumulated data for accuracy and prepares reports of information and sample data. • Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of a Lead Operations Technician. • Participates in process improvement activities. • Receives, handles and inventories specimens of human, animal, and/or plant origin at temperatures ranging from ambient to -196°C, and having potentially hazardous properties. • Assures compliance to cGMP parts 210 and 211 and company quality systems. • Follows standard operating procedures (SOPs), facility safety guidelines, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) requirements which may include compliance with cGMP CFR parts 210 and 211 where applicable. • Role models behavior consistent with our company values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation & Involvement. • May prepare sample collection kits in accordance with Standard Work Instructions. • May preform commercial packaging and labeling activities. • May be required to travel to other facilities to meet business needs. Must be able to perform Operations Technician 2 duties: • Compiles data for the storage and retrieval of specimens and for report preparation. • Assists in training of peers according to SOPs in the effective use of equipment, methods of storage and retrieval, serum separation, aliquoting, general laboratory procedures and systematic data entry. • Contributes to development of standard operating procedures for repository and/or laboratory. • Conducts investigations to determine specimen movement history and recommends resolution of inventory inaccuracies. • Performs internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects. • Resolves complex discrepancies involving ID modifications/duplicate or redundant entries, and multi‐field corrections as directed by client or Supervisor instructions. • Verifies material prior to shipment and confirms accuracy of data entry records for incoming material. • May process biological samples according to client specifications, including but not limited to, blood-component separation and aliquoting. • Supports printing services including the printing of materials, compiling of job packets, supply inventory maintenance, and perform minor preventive maintenance on thermal transfer label printers. Sr. Operations Technicians must apply skills to perform the following duties: • Mentors and participates in the training of peers. • Maintains repository files for validation of data and preparation of queries. • Reviews accumulated data for accuracy and prepares reports of information and sample data. • Trouble shoots facility equipment issues and provides suggestions and/or solutions for implementation. • Mid‐process pick‐up of projects initiated by others and determines path forward; seeing project to final accurate conclusion. • May lead the printing proof implementation and maintenance processes, including collaboration various departments including Quality Assurance, Client Services, and Technical Services. May lead the printing services processes to ensure all requests are met on time and sufficient supplies are accurately and effectively maintained. • Leads and completes labeling services and batch records. • Provides follow‐up to direct client contact via email or face‐to‐face. • Day‐to‐day coordination of multiple repository projects in process. • Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

Mon-Fri 8am-5pm prefer experience working with Cold Chain, Dry Ice, Liquid Nitrogen (LN2), -80 Freezers preferred. Prefer work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving, batch records, labeling and sample management. Basic Minimum Qualifications: The qualifications listed below are representative of knowledge, skill and/or ability. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty. • Requires proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form. • Requires expert ability to prepare reports using Microsoft Excel. • Requires knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Word and possibly Microsoft Access. • Requires expert ability to work with methods to handle, process, and store specimens using a computerized storage and retrieval system. • Requires knowledge of Universal Precautions, general laboratory and quality assurance/control. • Valid driver’s license and good driving record if required to transport material. • Requires demonstration of good professional judgment when working with clients. • Requires ability to role model behavior consistent with company values. • Requires demonstration of strong logic and problem-solving skills. • Must be self-driven; able to function and complete tasks without continual oversight and direction. • Must have high level of integrity and reliability, as database and inventory management are key aspects of the position. Education/ Experience: • Requires High School Diploma; Prefer a Bachelor’s degree in a Science related field. • Requires 2+ years repository work experience with data entry, shipping/receiving, sample management. • Requires 2+ years packaging, labeling, and batch record experience. • Experience with Optel, Codesoft, label printing, barcode grading is preferred. Certificates and/ or Licenses: • IATA Dangerous Goods Training for Class 6.2 Shipping. • Blood Borne Pathogens Training. Hep B vaccine required
