Location : Arlington Heights, IL - (Remote)
Duration : Long term Contract
The role of the IBM Z Technical Specialist is to work with the IBM mainframe teams and must have strong technical expertise and eagerness to work with new technology and infrastructure. You must have worked on several large complex projects in an architectural role designing and implementing technical solutions to commercial problems.
Mainframe Network Technician will be responsible for:
We are seeking a system programmer who will install, customize, and maintain the operating system as well as the install and/or upgrade of other system products that operate on the mainframe.
There can be multiple functions within the job involving multiple products and technologies. Including but not limited to programming, support to maintain essential environmental conditions & analysis - creating functional/technical design solutions. The job holder may specialize in a single or combination of those functions/technologies. They will be involved in overseeing the deployment, planning, configuration & testing.
Manage the Mainframe Network processes which includes the following key areas:
• Configure and work with hardware engineers with the setup of the mainframe processors and storage related equipment.
  • Installing, upgrading and supporting the z/OS operating system and other supporting ISV products particularly from the vendors; IBM and Computer Associates (CA)
  • Extended technical expertise with z/OS, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, USS, SDSF and JCL. Knowledge of IBM and Broadcom / BMC Products.
  • Must have excellent problem determination skills and be a true team player while also the ability to work independently.
  • Provide off hours support for the implementation of software changes and support for other projects requiring software expertise as well as be part of an on-call rota
  • Provide production support to address any system-related issues. This will include incident and problem management.

• Planning hardware and software system upgrade and configuration management.
• Deploying automation to support operations on the system.
• Work closely with capacity planning to ensure the workload is well managed. Ensure load balancing so each component should have the capacity to takeover the load and performance
• Provide monitoring and operability to detect and control any processing anomalies or system errors. Produce monitoring and reporting features to provide transparency if a component failure which might result in a non-disruptive dynamic change minimizing the impact.
  • Install and maintain security products and network protocol products.
  • Assist application programmers on any processing concerns or products which they utilize within their toolbox.
  • Determine problems when debugging system software. These problems are often captured in a dump or trace and with debugging tools the system programmer can determine where the components have failed. Should be able to open APARs with vendors
  • Support role swap activities to ensure a high level of resiliency of the systems.
