Job description

Individuals in this job classification are under the supervision of the registered nurse and are responsible for the collection of assessment data, contributing to the nursing process and documenting care activities in accordance with OSUMC standards to deliver safe, efficient, effective, quality patient care.  The Senior Nurse Extern must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.  This individual must utilize principles of growth and development over the life span; demonstrate the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status; and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.  The Senior Nurse Extern will participate in the plan for the provision of patient care as described in the Patient Care policies and procedures, and is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act.  This is a permanent full-time or part-time position for nursing students who have completed their junior year in a college of nursing.  

Education: High School or GED

License/Certification: 

  • Must pass the OK RN boards within 6 months of completion of the RN program.
