Job description

Amazon is looking for a talented and self-motivated Global Environmental Waste Program Manager to support all AWS sites globally. The successful candidate will join the AWS Environmental team, an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS's growth around the world, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance and highest-level environmental performance of AWS's data center global operations. The Environmental team has responsibility for managing Environmental requirements and risk from site selection through to decommissioning.

This is a Senior Global Program Manager role within the Global Environmental Programs Team of AWS Environmental. The role requires a highly skilled professional to manage complex, ambiguous waste initiatives across organizational boundaries.
The ideal candidate must lead waste program initiatives, influence stakeholders, and work independently while seeking guidance when needed.

Strong strategic and tactical skills are essential, including balancing short and long-term needs, mitigating risks, and delivering simplified solutions. Excellent communication skills are crucial, with the ability to present to senior leadership and write strategic narratives. The role involves mentoring, recruitment, and process improvement.

Cross-functional collaboration and consensus-building are key. The successful candidate will significantly impact long-term organizational goals and model best practices in Waste and Circular Economy, driving change and innovation across the organization.
Key job responsibilities
Leadership and commitment. Ensure the global waste program evolves to meet changing organizational needs, stakeholder expectations, and environmental challenges, and securing necessary resources and support for continuous improvement


Collaboration. Collaborate with wider environmental, operations, legal, policy and sustainability teams to perform reviews and updates needed to ensure the waste program remains relevant and effective.
Risk management and planning. Support the ongoing identification and assessment of environmental risks identified through the waste program across the full AWS lifecycle from equipment development and site selection through to decommissioning

Develop and implement strategic plans to address significant environmental risks and opportunities, setting ambitious yet achievable improvements.
Implementation and operation. Oversee the design and deployment of our Waste program to enhance environmental performance and drive circular economy initiatives to ensure compliance with legal and other requirements. Lead associated environmental development training and awareness programs to embed skills throughout the organization.
Performance evaluation

Establish and manage a robust system for monitoring, measuring, and reporting performance of the waste program. Conduct regular assessments of waste related tools and processes being used by AWS, collate and analyze waste data gathered to identify trends, gaps, and areas for improvement. Present performance reports and recommendations to top management.
Continual improvement

Drive the ongoing enhancement of the waste program leading management reviews, implementing corrective and preventative actions, and identifying innovative approaches to improve environmental performance.
