The Financial Controller will be instrumental in overseeing the day-to-day financial operations and ensuring compliance with FQHC regulations. You will collaborate closely with senior management to develop and implement financial policies and procedures, maintain accurate financial records, and provide strategic guidance to support our mission-driven objectives. Join our dedicated team and contribute to our mission of providing compassionate and comprehensive healthcare services to our community.

  • We are becoming an FQHC so the candidate should have familiarity with that and of course, must be strong at accounting for a primary and behavioral health care center.
  • We do not have a big accounting team since we are small. The candidate would take over the outsourced medical billing company, the outsourced bookkeeping service, and manage probably two resources internally.
  • This person might also take over grant writing.
  • S/he will be the primary face to our auditors and our board on all financial matters.
    • Even though we are small, the candidate will be working with a very accomplished team of CEO, CQO, CD, etc. so s/he needs to be solid, professional and ready to grow.
  • focus on talent in the Chicago area

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management: Oversee all financial aspects of the FQHC, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data.
  • Compliance: Assist in achieving Federally Qualified Health Care (FQHC) status by ensuring compliance with HRSA accreditations, federal regulations, and other applicable guidelines. Stay updated on changes in regulations and ensure the organization's financial practices align with compliance standards.
  • Revenue Cycle Management: Work closely with the finance team to optimize billing and collections processes. Monitor cash flow, review financial statements, and prepare reports to track revenue generation and ensure timely reimbursement for services rendered.
  • Grant Management: As an FQHC or Look-a-like, we will rely on grants to support our operations and initiatives. You will be involved in grant writing, obtaining grants, and managing grant funds. Ensure compliance with grant requirements and prepare necessary reports for grantors.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with senior management, help develop annual budgets and forecasts. Provide guidance and support to department heads throughout the budgeting process and monitor budget performance against actual results.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial reports for senior management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders. These reports include financial statements, variance analyses, and other relevant information to support decision-making and accountability.
  • Supervision and Leadership: As our organization grows, you will supervise accounting staff responsible for tasks such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll. Provide leadership, guidance, and training to ensure the finance team operates effectively and efficiently.
  • Continuous Improvement: Seek opportunities to improve financial processes and systems. Identify areas for process enhancements, implement best practices, and leverage technology to streamline financial operations.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum five years of financial leadership experience in a public/private/nonprofit environment, preferably with FQHC experience.
  • Three years or more of healthcare accounting experience, specifically in a FQHC or healthcare center with at least 50 employees.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or equivalent experience; CPA preferred.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks and QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of governmental cost principles, budgetary and reporting requirements, and auditing standards.
  • Demonstrated financial leadership experience in an FQHC setting with strong analytical skills and experience working with and presenting to the Board of Directors.

  • Excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
