About this Role

The Senior Environmental Manager is responsible for leading the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of environmental programs, policies, and systems across the corporate office and Operating Units. This role provides expert guidance on complex regulatory matters, drives environmental performance improvement initiatives, and mentors environmental staff to build organizational capability. The Senior Environmental Manager serves as the primary environmental subject matter expert and represents the company with regulatory agencies and external stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Supports Operating Units' efforts to achieve and maintain compliance with Federal, State, and Local environmental regulations, providing strategic oversight and escalation support for complex compliance issues.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves the company's environmental management systems, programs, and policies across all corporate and field operations.
  • Influences senior leadership, management, and cross-functional teams to maintain and advance environmental performance through the collection, analysis, and reporting of data metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory developments at the federal, state, and local levels; advises senior management and executives on expected changes, impacts, and recommended responses.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, including managing agency inspections, enforcement actions, and negotiations on behalf of the company.
  • Partners with site, regional, and national stakeholders to build environmental awareness, enhance tracking and reporting capabilities, and drive continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Oversees and conducts environmental inspections; prepares and reviews technical reports, contracts, and regulatory submittals and government paperwork.
  • Leads resolution of complex environmental issues related to air quality, wastewater, stormwater, construction waste, hazmat reporting, and spill response.
  • Manages the acquisition, renewal, and compliance of permits necessary to support existing operations and business expansions; ensures all regulatory and permit-required reports are accurately completed and submitted on time.
  • Oversees site compliance sampling programs and laboratory submissions; reviews and interprets analytical results.
  • Develops, leads, and manages periodic regulatory compliance audit programs at company facilities; tracks corrective actions to resolution.
  • Mentors and provides technical guidance to environmental staff, Safety personnel, and operations teams with environmental responsibilities.
  • Leads the setting of environmental objectives, targets, and performance goals aligned with corporate strategy.
  • Manages environmental-related budget planning, forecasting, and expenditures within area of responsibility.
  • Supports due diligence activities for acquisitions, divestitures, and new project development.
  • Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Bring

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of progressive environmental management experience in utility construction, oil & gas, or related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programs at a multi-site or enterprise level.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and managing projects with cross-functional stakeholders.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or related field.
  • Master's Degree in a relevant discipline is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility in environmental compliance and program management.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Environmental Manager (REM) a plus.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with competing deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills, including budget oversight and resource planning.
  • Demonstrated experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) and continuous improvement methodologies.
