Summary

The Sr. Environmental Specialist will support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives for the Lansing site by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental risks and regulatory requirements within a manufacturing environment. This role will serve as a subject matter expert for environmental permitting, reporting, compliance management, and environmental program implementation while supporting the development of a strong EH&S culture across the organization.

The Sr. Environmental Specialist will collaborate with internal teams, consultants, contractors, regulatory agencies, and global headquarters to ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations while supporting operational and business objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage environmental permitting and compliance activities, including air, storm water, wastewater, waste, hazardous materials, and other applicable environmental programs
  • Support permit applications, renewals, modifications, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Compile, analyze, and maintain environmental data required for permitting, reporting, audits, and compliance tracking
  • Collaborate with internal departments, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure accurate and timely permit submissions and regulatory reporting
  • Monitor and interpret environmental regulations and communicate regulatory changes and impacts to leadership and operational teams
  • Support development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental programs, procedures, and compliance initiatives
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits, and assessments to identify risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities
  • Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and root cause analysis related to environmental compliance issues
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to teams regarding environmental regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices
  • Support environmental training and awareness initiatives to strengthen environmental compliance and EH&S culture
  • Maintain environmental records, documentation, and compliance files in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Assist leadership with budget planning and tracking related to permitting, environmental projects, compliance activities, and regulatory fees
  • Support environmental compliance and reporting activities across multiple LG Energy Solution sites as needed
  • Collaborate with HQ and global sites regarding environmental standards, reporting, and operational support
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
    • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field required
  • MBA or MS preferred, or equivalent relevant experience

Experience:

  • 6+ years of environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory, or EH&S experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience managing environmental permits, reporting, and regulatory compliance programs
  • Experience working with federal, state, and local environmental agencies preferred
  • Battery manufacturing, automotive, chemical, or heavy manufacturing experience preferred

Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and compliance programs
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills
  • Ability to independently manage complex environmental projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with internal teams, leadership, consultants, and regulatory agencies
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and projects
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Ability to support flexible work hours as needed to support production, HQ, and global operations
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and provide direction, guidance, and technical support to others
