How much do senior electronics engineer jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 6, 2026, the average yearly pay for senior electronics engineer in the United States is $121,377.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $107,500.00 and $132,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior electronics engineer?

To excel as a Senior Electronics Engineer, you need advanced knowledge of circuit design, embedded systems, and signal processing, typically backed by a degree in electrical or electronics engineering and several years of industry experience. Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., Altium Designer), simulation software (e.g., SPICE), and relevant certifications such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license are often required. Strong problem-solving, project management, and collaboration skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for designing reliable electronic systems, leading teams, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex projects.

What does a senior electronics engineer do?

A Senior Electronics Engineer designs, develops, and tests electronic systems and components, often leading teams on complex projects. They are responsible for ensuring that products meet technical specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. Senior Electronics Engineers also troubleshoot issues, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with other departments such as manufacturing and quality assurance. Their work is critical in industries like telecommunications, automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics.

What are some common challenges senior electronics engineers face when leading cross-functional project teams?

Senior Electronics Engineers often coordinate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to deliver complex products. A common challenge is ensuring clear communication across disciplines, as each team may have different priorities and technical languages. Managing project timelines while addressing unforeseen technical issues and integrating feedback from various stakeholders requires strong leadership and adaptability. Successfully navigating these challenges helps build trust and delivers high-quality solutions.

What is the difference between Senior Electronics Engineer vs Electronics Design Engineer?

AspectSenior Electronics EngineerElectronics Design Engineer
CredentialsBachelor's or Master's in Electronics or Electrical Engineering; often with 5+ years experienceBachelor's or Master's in Electronics or Electrical Engineering; typically 2-5 years experience
Work EnvironmentDesign, development, testing, and troubleshooting electronic systems in R&D or manufacturingFocus on designing and developing electronic circuits and components, often in product development
Employer & Industry UsageUsed in tech, aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing sectorsCommon in consumer electronics, telecommunications, and industrial equipment sectors

While both roles involve electronic circuit design and testing, Senior Electronics Engineers typically oversee projects, mentor teams, and handle complex systems, whereas Electronics Design Engineers focus more on creating and developing electronic designs for products. The senior role requires more experience and often involves leadership responsibilities.

Job description

Job Description Summary

Aย Senior Power Electronics Engineerย at QuEra Computing designs, develops, and tests advanced power delivery and control systems that support neutral-atom quantum computing platforms. This includes low-noise power conversion, precision voltage/current regulation, and scalable power architectures for sensitive experimental and production quantum systems.

This role spans the full engineering lifecycle-from concept and system architecture through prototyping, validation, and deployment-ensuring robust, stable, and low-noise power for cutting-edge quantum hardware.

This position is based onsite inย Boston, MA.

Duties/Responsibilities

Job Description:

  • Design, develop, and implement power system architectures for quantum computing platforms, including low-noise AC/DC and DC/DC power distribution, point-of-load regulation, and custom power conversion solutions.ย
  • Develop and test power electronics hardware such as DC/DC converters, linear regulators, power filtering systems, and precision current/voltage sources for sensitive instrumentation.ย
  • Optimize power systems for low noise, high stability, thermal performance, and scalability in lab and production environments.ย
  • Define and document technical specifications for power subsystems and support transition from prototype to production.ย
  • Analyze system-level power integrity, grounding, and EMI/EMC performance; ensure compliance with system requirements.ย
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex power electronics issues in integrated hardware systems.
  • Collaborate closely with physicists, RF/optics engineers, and system engineers to ensure power systems meet stringent experimental requirements.ย
  • Drive solutions to complex and evolving technical challenges; define requirements in ambiguous or research-driven contexts.ย
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in power electronics and power integrity for precision hardware systems.ย
  • Identify technical risks related to power delivery and develop mitigation strategies.ย
  • Support system bring-up, integration, and validation in laboratory and production settings.ย
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal best practices for power system design.ย
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.ย

Skills/Abilities
