Job description

Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

The Senior Development Manager serves as the primary fundraiser for CBA Fund, representing its values, credibility, and impact to funders and investors. This role focuses on building and strengthening relationships, engaging new funders, and sustaining long-term partnerships to secure the resources needed to advance the organization’s mission. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Development Manager leads strategy development, funder cultivation, and revenue growth. Key responsibilities include creating and executing annual development plans while managing grant activities to ensure CBA Fund’s ongoing financial stability.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead the development and implementation of annual strategies to secure both loan capital and operating support for CBA Fund.
  • Build, cultivate, and steward relationships with a diverse group of funders and investors across public, private, and philanthropic sectors.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals, produce impact reports, and track progress toward goals.
  • Negotiate and manage partnerships with banks, foundations, and government agencies to ensure capital and grant funding aligns with lending priorities.
  • Monitor capital markets and philanthropic trends to identify new funding opportunities and anticipate shifts that could impact capitalization strategies.
  • Reporting outcomes to the Executive Director and Board on long-term financial sustainability.
  • Serve as a liaison between funders and CBA Fund staff, collaborating to align incoming resources with programmatic and lending needs.
  • Other duties as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred.
  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in fundraising, capital raising, or development preferred, particularly within a nonprofit lender, CDFI, financial institution, or related sector.
  • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, grants, and/or impact investment capital.
  • Strong knowledge of CDFI financing, public funding sources, and impact investing.
  • Excellent relationship building, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to develop and execute fundraising and capitalization strategies.
  • Strong grant writing, reporting, and project management skills.
  • Experience advising leadership and working cross-functionally.
  • Commitment to community development and serving underserved communities.
  • Established network of funders/investors preferred.

Location: CBA is headquartered in Washington, DC. Given the relationship management and stakeholder engagement responsibilities of this position, preference will be given to candidates located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
