Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Redwing, MN | Direct Hire | $110,000–$140,000

Konik is partnering with a well-respected manufacturing company specializing in automation equipment. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced machinery from concept through production. This is a hands-on role that combines technical engineering leadership, mechanical design expertise, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing, controls, project management, and leadership teams.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment and enjoys seeing mechanical systems come to life through prototyping, testing, and full-scale production.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of custom automation machinery from concept through production release.
  • Create detailed mechanical models, assemblies, layouts, and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Develop innovative machine concepts focused on reliability, manufacturability, efficiency, and cost performance.
  • Serve as technical lead on complex engineering projects and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Collaborate with controls engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, project management, and service teams throughout project lifecycle.
  • Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, tolerance analysis, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Support prototype builds, machine testing, debugging, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Oversee BOM development, component selection, and maintain engineering documentation.
  • Ensure projects meet schedule, budget, quality, and customer requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for machine performance, standardization, and engineering processes.
  • Interface directly with customers when needed to support technical discussions and project execution.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design experience in automated equipment, machine design, or custom industrial equipment.
  • Strong experience designing high-speed automated machinery
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with machine design principles including pneumatics, servo motion systems, conveyance systems, robotics integration, mechanical power transmission, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
  • Experience leading engineering projects and mentoring technical teams.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be comfortable working on-site regularly to support engineering and production activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of automation integration and controls interfaces.
  • Experience supporting machine commissioning and installation activities.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, engineering change processes, and project tracking tools.
  • Exposure to customer-facing engineering support or applications engineering.
