Job description

Location: Blossom Athletic Center
Work Schedule: SUB-TEMP
Work Type: Temporary
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be at least 18 years of age
ASSISTANT SWIM COACH:
Previous experience teaching swim lessons or assisting with youth sports preferred
SWIM COACH I:
College Coursework preferred; Previous swim coaching or lesson experience
SWIM COACH II:
College Degree preferred; Two years of competitive coaching experience
LEAD SWIM COACH:
College degree preferred; Demonstrated success coaching competitive swimmers; Strong leadership, communication, and organization skills
CERTIFICATION:
ASSISTANT SWIM COACH:
USA Swimming coach certification (or obtain before coaching independently)
SWIM COACH I:
ASCA Level 1 preferred
SWIM COACH II:
ASCA Level I (Level 2 preferred)
LEAD SWIM COACH:
ASCA Level 2 preferred or higher
High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :
Assistant Swim Coach:
Assist lead coaches in providing a safe, fun, and positive learning environment while developing foundational coaching skills
Swim Coach I:
Independently coach developmental groups while emphasizing technique, athlete development, and enjoyment of the sport.
Swim Coach II:
Lead competitive training groups while preparing athletes for championship level competition and assisting with staff development.
Lead Swim Coach:
Provide leadership for assigned training groups while supporting overall program growth, coach development, and competitive success.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ASSISTANT SWIM COACH
• Assist lead coaches during practices
• Help supervise athletes during workouts
• Demonstrate drills and technique
• Assist with swimmer safety and attendance
• Help conduct evaluations and tryouts
SWIM COACH I
All Assistant Coach responsibilities, plus:
• Independently plan and lead assigned practices
• Teach legal stroke technique and racing skills
• Foster a positive team culture
• Monitor swimmer progress
• Communicate regularly with parents and families
• Assist at swim meets
• Collaborate with senior staff on seasonal planning
SWIM COACH II
All Coach I responsibilities, plus:
• Design weekly and seasonal training plans
• Prepare athletes for championship meets
• Analyze swimmer performance and goal setting
• Mentor Assistant Coaching staff
• Assist with coach education
• Lead portions of staff meetings
• Support recruitment and retention efforts
• Help implement program philosophy across multiple groups
LEAD SWIM COACH
All Coach II responsibilities, plus:
• Oversee assigned training group(s)
• Collaborate with the Head Club Coach on seasonal planning
• Mentor and evaluate assistant, lead I, and lead II coaches
• Ensure consistency of coaching philosophy across groups
• Lead parent meetings and athlete goal?setting sessions
• Assist with team operations, tryouts, and special events
• Support meet planning and staffing
• Serve as a role model for professionalism, culture, and athlete development
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Club Coach
In addition, ALL COACHES are expected to:
• Maintain all USA Swimming coaching certifications and requirements.
• Represent the program professionally at practices, meets, and team events.
• Create a safe, positive, and challenging learning environment.
• Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and fellow staff.
• Be willing and able to demonstrate skills in the water.
• Work collaboratively as part of the coaching staff.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Complete additional duties as assigned.
