What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Seasonal Flagger, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Seasonal Flagger, you need a thorough understanding of traffic control procedures, safety regulations, and often a flagger certification or valid state-issued card. Familiarity with communication tools like two-way radios, traffic cones, and signage is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong verbal communication are essential soft skills for effective coordination and ensuring public safety. These skills are crucial for minimizing hazards, maintaining efficient traffic flow, and protecting both workers and motorists in construction or event zones.

What are seasonal flaggers?

Seasonal flaggers are temporary workers who manage and direct traffic around construction zones, roadwork, or other temporary road disruptions, typically during peak construction seasons. Their main responsibility is to ensure the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians by signaling when to stop, slow down, or proceed. Seasonal flaggers often use hand signals, flags, or stop/slow paddles, and may set up warning signs or cones. The job is physically demanding and requires alertness, as flaggers work outdoors in various weather conditions. Most positions are available during the spring and summer months when road construction activity is highest.
