What do we need
We are seeking a Business Development Representative with a scientific background to serve as the critical first point of contact for prospective customers. This role requires the unique ability to speak the language of scientists while identifying and qualifying opportunities for our sales team. Your scientific knowledge will be essential in understanding customer challenges, building credibility with researchers, and articulating how Dotmatics solutions enable breakthrough discoveries.
In this role you will get to:
Lead Generation & Qualification
  • Generate qualified sales opportunities through strategic outbound prospecting (cold calling, email campaigns, LinkedIn outreach)
  • Research and identify key decision-makers within target accounts in biopharma, biotech, CROs, academic research institutions, and chemicals/materials companies
  • Qualify inbound leads from marketing campaigns, webinars, trade shows, and website inquiries
  • Schedule qualified meetings for Account Executives and Inside Sales Representatives

Scientific Engagement
  • Leverage your scientific background to engage in credible, substantive conversations with researchers and lab managers
  • Understand and articulate common challenges in scientific data management, laboratory workflows, and research informatics
  • Identify specific pain points related to ELN (Electronic Lab Notebooks), LIMS, cheminformatics, bioinformatics, and data visualization

Pipeline Management & Collaboration
  • Maintain accurate records of all prospect interactions and activities in Salesforce CRM
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly quotas for qualified meetings and sales-accepted opportunities
  • Collaborate closely with Account Executives to ensure smooth handoffs and continuous feedback
  • Partner with Marketing to optimize campaign performance and messaging
  • Provide market intelligence on customer needs, competitive activity, and industry trends
  • Participate in regular pipeline reviews and team meetings

Continuous Learning & Development within the Scientific Space
  • Develop deep product knowledge across the Dotmatics portfolio (Luma, Geneious, FCS Express, ELN, etc.)
  • Stay current on scientific research trends and common laboratory informatics challenges
  • Understand competitive landscape and positioning against alternatives
  • Continuously refine messaging, objection handling, and qualification techniques
  • Pursue professional development opportunities and sales training

We are looking for people who have a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or related scientific field with 1-3 years of laboratory, research, or industry experience in biopharma, biotech, academic research, or related scientific environment.
This position is commission eligible with uncapped commission structure.
The key skills we are looking for
  • Previous sales or business development experience in SaaS, life sciences technology, or laboratory informatics if preferred
  • Understanding of scientific research workflows, laboratory processes, and data management challenges
  • Strong interest in transitioning from bench science to a commercial/sales career
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage diverse audiences from lab scientists to C-level executives
  • Self-motivated, coachable, and resilient with a growth mindset
  • Comfortable with high-volume outbound prospecting and rejection
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and sales engagement platforms

You may also have
  • Hands-on experience with scientific software tools (ELN, LIMS, data analysis platforms, etc.)
  • Experience in drug discovery, antibody development, proteomics, flow cytometry, or related research areas
  • Familiarity with scientific informatics market and competitive landscape
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, metrics-driven environment
