Science Lab Teacher
The Greater Dayton School (GDS) is looking for an elementary Science Lab teacher to build our first ever Science Lab enrichment program and imbue a love of the sciences in PreK-6 students.
Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Work with a generous budget to research and select a PreK-6 Science Lab curriculum
  • Set up the Science Lab - Currently there are no materials, only a classroom with furniture
  • Take the lead (under supervision of principals) to design the curriculum
  • Lead daily Science Lab classes - Lessons, hands-on (preferably non-digital) science labs
    • 6-13 students per class
    • 6 classes per day (60 minutes per class) + 90 minutes planning time per day)
  • Manage the Science Lab (e.g. lab equipment, consumables, instructional materials)
  • Keep the Science Lab clean and organized
  • Grading and family communication
  • Lunch duty - Family style dining with students
  • Lead a sport/club from 3-4p (after school time is part of our school day)

Character Traits and Preferred Experience:
  • Passion for science and hands-on learning tasks
  • Supremely organized and collaborative
  • Loves working with children and adolescents
  • Deep content knowledge in science
  • Expert in operating an elementary school science lab
  • At least 1 year of teaching PreK-6
  • Could be a PreK-8 homeroom teacher with a rock-star science class
  • Expertise in teaching: Classroom management, routines and procedures, lesson/unit planning, content knowledge
  • Preferred - Experience working with students from low-income backgrounds

Compensation + Details:
  • Base salary - $59,000-$63,000 (3 year contract + annual raises)
  • Hours: 8a-5p (10 month teacher work calendar, 2 months paid vacation)
  • Full benefits paid for teacher & family (0% check deductions) + 401(k) retirement
  • Relocation stipend, tuition assistance, child care stipend, maternity leave
