Job Description / Essential Elements: Print HEMET UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ELEMENTARY ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION Serves under the supervision of the Elementary School Principal as an educational leader. Works with students in the areas of attendance and discipline and assumes the duties of the principal during his/her absence. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Assists in evaluating the educational program, services, and personnel as directed; assists the principal in curriculum development and instructional improvement; assists the principal in supervision and evaluation of teachers; counsels with students, teachers, and parents concerning problems of student adjustment to insure student success in school regarding education, social and personal problems; coordinates all guidance services in the school; supervises the school plant and approves work orders; schedules teacher extra duty assignments; supervises the maintenance of complete school attendance and punctuality; directs and assists teachers in maintaining correct and adequate records of attendance and in reporting school attendance; investigates cases of irregular attendance and excessive tardiness; responsible for student control and all disciplinary actions; supervises the campus before, during, and after the school day; supervises student transportation and bus requests; coordinates and supervises campus supervision personnel; responsible for school noon sports program; directs the maintenance of records which include: maintenance of records of gifted students; maintenance of student attendance, accounting, and preparation of appropriate reports.

Maintenance and articulation of permanent student records; assists in interpreting district and school programs to parents new to the district and to interested community members; participates in community and professional organizations; assists the principal in collaborating with the Assistant Superintendent and other school principals in the articulation of educational programs; assists the principal in coordinating special instructional services at the local site with the appropriate personnel; accepts other duties and responsibilities as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning, preferably in secondary curriculum or administration or a closely related field. EXPERIENCE: 5 years of successful teaching experience.

Previous administrative experience is desired. CREDENTIAL AND LICENSES: General Administration, Standard Administration, or Administrative Services credential. Valid California Driver's license; Maintain possession of such license during the course of employment.
