Job description

The SBA Loan Officer is responsible for originating, structuring, underwriting, closing, and servicing SBA loan products. This role requires regular and customary prospecting and meetings with potential and existing customers outside of the Bank. The position supports business growth through relationship development, preliminary credit analysis, portfolio management, and compliance with SBA, BSA, and Bank policies.


  • Develop new business while expanding relationships with existing clients.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through ongoing inperson, telephone, and email contact.
  • Crosssell Bank products and services that meet customer needs.
  • Negotiate loan terms and structures within Bank and SBA guidelines.
  • Perform site visits and customer due diligence as required.
  • Provide preliminary credit and financial risk analyses for SBA loan requests.
  • Manage SBA loan packages through application, underwriting, credit approval, and closing.
  • Perform annual reviews for existing lines of credit by obtaining updated borrowers and guarantor financial information.
  • Obtain required documentation for SBA loan closings and coordinate or monitor the closing process.
  • Provide legal and loan documentation to attorneys throughout origination, maintenance, and closing stages.
  • Prepare Personal Financial Statements, Commitment Letters, Waivers, Memoranda, Letters of Intent, and required SBA forms.
  • Manage SBA loan portfolio servicing, including monitoring loan performance, payment history, and following up on exceptions.
  • Conduct ongoing customer followup to ensure compliance with loan terms.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and support internal projects for Senior Management as requested.
  • Obtain and maintain documentation required for Know Your Customer (KYC) profiles using XPert AML or other Bankapproved systems.
  • Ensure all activities comply with SBA regulations, Bank policies, and applicable laws.
  • Stay current on SBA products, services, market conditions, local market trends, and competitor offerings.
  • Participate in Bank functions and community development activities for networking opportunities.

Education/Experience:

Requirements

  1. Associate’s degree in business fields such as Accounting or Finance, with an established portfolio of banking relationships.
  2. 7+ years of banking experience in products sales and lending related to SBA products, and specifically related to attracting and servicing customers
  3. Must be able to travel and visit prospective new clients within a designated area to increase depository and loan production/sales goals.
  4. Must be knowledgeable of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP 50 10 8).
  5. Must be knowledgeable of 7(a) Loan Program Requirements.
  6. Must be knowledgeable of 504 Loan Program Regulations.

Combination of education and experience will be considered.

  2. Must be oriented towards providing excellent customer service.
  3. Must have sales skills and ability to sell various products.
  4. Must have leadership abilities to lead projects and manage people indirectly; ability to lead and drive initiatives; ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  5. Computer knowledge in MS Office Software (e.g. Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook).
  6. Knowledge of banking laws and applicable compliance regulations and on the completion of Know Your Customer (KYC).

 

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field of study such as Accounting or Finance.
  • 5+ years of banking related experience preferably in SBA product sales and lending with an established portfolio of banking relationships.
