Job description

About the Position

The Senior SBA Business Development Officer develops contacts and leads to generate Small Business Administration (SBA) government-guaranteed loans. SBA BDO will gather loan application documentation and prepare loan presentations with the support of the Credit Team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Builds, develops and maintains profitable specialty finance lending relationships with new and existing customers and referral sources.
  • Generates leads through cold calling and existing contacts to develop SBA lending opportunities.
  • Responsible for developing new relationships in order to expand government guaranteed lending base (7(a), 504 and USDA)
  • Assist in negotiating loans and structuring presentations
  • Collects and reviews financial statements and supporting documents, structures SBA loan proposals, completes initial analysis and prepares credit package to ensure complete loan file for credit submission.
  • Maintain full understanding of the SBA and the Bankโ€™s lending policy and applicable lending related policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, agency guidelines and organization policies.
  • Responsible for generating $15MM in closed loans per full calendar year
  • Must be willing to travel at least up to 25%. This time would include visiting current and potential customers, trade shows, conferences and in office when required by management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • SBA lending experience a plus, to include exposure to 7(a), 504 and USDA loan products
  • Minimum of five yearsโ€™ SBA loan origination experience required.
  • Formal NAGGL training on SOP is preferred
  • Strong relationship management and business development/b2b sales skills
  • Advanced knowledge of credit administration, analysis and policy/procedure
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex financial accounting and analysis
  • A high level of analytical skill to assess and evaluate loan risk, credit limitations and appraisals, have a thorough understanding of underwriting and financial data.
  • Advanced knowledge of SBA lending products and services
  • Strong understanding of eligibility, structure and documentation of SBA loans
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in managing customer relationships.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal (face-to-face and phone) communication skills.
  • Organized individual with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office Suite and related software
  • Ability to work effectively within a remote team
  • Travel required

Location

This is a remote position that can report to our Troy, MI, or Salt Lake City, UT.
