Job Summary
The Safety Supervisor leads daily environmental, health, and safety activities for assigned operations and shift teams. This role supervises Safety Technicians, supports OSHA and regulatory compliance, completes risk assessments, delivers training, investigates incidents, and partners with operations to identify hazards and implement corrective actions that promote a safe and compliant workplace.
 
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supervise and develop Safety Technicians for applicable shift(s) at the facility.  
  • Performs a variety of administrative, technical, and professional work, in analyzing, administering and sustaining departmental led programs.
  • Responsible for departmental record keeping, including all OSHA filings. Maintains Safety records and tabulates and presents relevant performance data internally, and as required externally (OSHA...).
  • Improve workplace safety by recognizing, evaluating and controlling potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, State and Local codes.
  • Conduct Safety and Environmental training, audits and surveys as needed.
  • Lead accident investigations; including the review of all accident and incident data. Manage the implementation of appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Review, revise and help create safety programs.
  • Conduct program assessments to identify departmental deficiencies.
  • Other responsibilities w/ similar skill and work conditions as assigned. 
 
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversees department staff of up to (6) team members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Departmental responsibilities include timekeeping; interviewing, hiring, and training/developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
 
Responsibilities for Food Safety
  • Responsible for completing required paperwork accurately and honestly as applicable.
  • Must adhere to all corporate GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and all Food and Employee Safety policies.
  • Must adhere to all Allergen control programs and procedures as applicable.
  • Responsible for reporting suspicious packages, activities, and individuals.
  • If monitoring CCPs (Critical Control Points), must be trained in HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) and adhere to approved HACCP plan(s).
 
Required Skills/Abilities
  • The ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally in English as it pertains to individual position.
  • Experience delivering effective training in a classroom and/or plant floor environment.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of database software; Internet software; project management software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Experience in completing effective incident investigations and determining appropriate and practical corrective actions
  • Training in the OSHA regulations (OSHA 30-hr card or higher)
  • Proven experience leading a team
  • Proven ability to work with others in different functions
