Our 250+ local customer service centers (CSCs) are supported by regional operations teams located throughout North America. 
 

Job Summary:

The Safety Supervisor is responsible for leading and managing all safety initiatives at a single CSC, ensuring compliance with company policies and federal, state, and local transportation regulations. Reporting directly to the General Manager this full-time, exempt position plays a critical role in fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement among the driver workforce.

This role supervises daily safety operations, provides on-going coaching and mentoring to drivers, performs routine site facility safety audits, conducts safety training, and leads investigations into accidents, incidents and complaints. The Safety Supervisor also ensures adherence to drug and alcohol testing protocols, maintains safety records, and supports the implementation of corporate safety programs at the site level. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills, along with a passion for promoting safe and reliable transportation services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises day-to-day activities of operators to ensure compliance with operational requirements for safe bus operations, including compliance with corporate safety training processes and practices.
  • Provides support, advice and guidance to operators in responding to a variety of issues (e.g. customer complaints, bus and/or worker safety, time-off requests), assessing situations and determining appropriate course of action (e.g. additional training, counseling) to prevent further occurrences in the future
  • Ensures a positive work environment for operators by providing coaching, mentoring and safety related training to promote high employee motivation and morale and commitment to company values and excellence in customer service.
  • Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner.
  • Supervises compliance with Company policies and/or processes; discusses any breech of policy and procedure noted with General Manager
  • Evaluates the performance of all direct-report personnel on a regular basis according to company policy
  • Administers appropriate employee discipline for direct reports, in alignment with company policy. For all other employees, including drivers, disciplinary actions are the responsibility of the General Manager or the employee's reporting manager.
  • Provide on-going training and performance evaluations for all Driver employees
  • Administer and maintain Company random drug/alcohol testing and pre-employment drug/alcohol testing program in conjunction with corporate office.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings using content provided by Corporate; responsible for including location specific results and trends. 
  • Assume primary responsibility in responding to personal injury and vehicle accidents by on-scene investigation and preparing and submitting reports to the corporate office in accordance with Company policy.
  • Investigate customer service complaints related to safety issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Administer and maintain Company Safe Driver Award Program.
  • Lead the location's Monthly Health and Safety Committee meetings; membership comprised of hourly drivers, monitors, technicians and office staff.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • Trainer in school bus transportation industry desired
  • Supervisory experience preferred; specifically experience supervising/training a driver workforce
  • Must complete state certification program or Durham's Training Academy for school bus driver instructor. Equivalent work experience as a Trainer can be substituted as appropriate.
  • License or Certification: SBDI certification required; Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements required;
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and transportation related software
  • Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and group presentation skills
  • Well-developed multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Ability to provide direction, coaching and mentoring to employees while creating an environment that encourages and values input and feedback
  • Ability to respond to unanticipated events to ensure excellence in customer service.
  • Ability to Investigate claims and incidents of questionable conduct, accidents etc.
  • Computer literacy skills in word processing and spreadsheets
