Job Summary
The Area Safety Manager is responsible for leading the area's safety initiatives to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and quality of work zone set ups.
The Area Safety Manager will travel between locations in Texas to conduct office and jobsite audits. This role involves developing safe drivers, maintaining safety policies and procedures, and training programs from multiple geographical areas in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The Area Safety Director will collaborate closely with divisional presidents and vice presidents, field personnel, and leadership of multiple sister companies under the Helix Family Companies while reporting to the Regional Director of Safety and Quality of Helix's South Division.
This role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture that aligns with the company's mission: "Protect lives everyday through superior traffic and infrastructure solutions."
Essential Functions
โ€ข Be a supportive example for our safety program by providing comprehensive training, safety awareness, solid administrative support, and timely incident reporting.
โ€ข Ensure that all company personnel are trained in safety specific functions such as flagging, safe driving, traffic control set-up, based on Texas specific criteria.
โ€ข Maintain training records and documentation
โ€ข Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
โ€ข Implement safety and quality procedures at the local level
โ€ข Manage quality of work by conducting facility and job-site audits to ensure overall compliance.
โ€ข Assist in obtaining information on all claims (Workers Compensation, General Liability, Auto, etc.) and reporting ASAP to the Regional Director of Safety
โ€ข Conduct or arrange various training sessions as needed throughout the office locations.
โ€ข Maintain the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations for all locations.
โ€ข Monitor and issue guidance on samsara telematics system data
Other Responsibilities
โ€ข Help Manage Driver compliance (MVR, Samsara, Accident Reporting, Fleetworthy, etc)
โ€ข Help facilitate drug screenings (primarily post-accident and reasonable suspicion).
โ€ข Help Oversee USDOT/MUTCD compliance program as well as state specific plans.
โ€ข Performs other safety and quality related duties as assigned

โ€ข Solid knowledge base of OSHA safety regulations and standards
Required Qualifications
โ€ข High School Diploma
โ€ข Working toward a college degree in safety a plus.
โ€ข Minimum of 5 years Safety and Training experience
โ€ข General knowledge of Tex-DOT compliance
โ€ข General understanding of OSHA regulations, USDOT compliance and Traffic Control.
โ€ข Professional certifications a plus (Safety Certificate Courses)
โ€ข Pass drug screen and MVR background to drive company vehicle.
โ€ข Strong written and verbal communications skills required.
โ€ข Computer skills in Excel and Word required.
โ€ข History of claims reduction and insurance policy administration a plus.
โ€ข 5 years Traffic Control or Road Construction experience
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข OSHA 500/501 certificate
โ€ข ATSSA/NSC instructor certificate

Work Environment
โ€ข 50% Travel to locations in Texas (Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio)
โ€ข Indoor work in office setting and will include occasional outdoor work environment in and around construction zones
โ€ข Occasional exposure to traffic, loud noises, and construction equipment
โ€ข M-F Schedule. Schedule may include nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
