The Safety Representative assists the Safety Director with implementation of health and safety programs to ensure a safe, productive, healthy, and accident free work environment across our Evergreen locations. This is a "home based worker" role with travel expectations primarily to areas in Michigan, northern Illinois, and Indiana. The salary range for this role is $85,000 - $100,000 annually, and is subject to change based on experience. We offer full benefits, PTO, and an annual bonus as well.
Essential Functions

  • Works under the general direction of the Safety Director
  • Travels frequently to active job sites across multiple states to support safety efforts
  • Assists with daily job site safety observations and hazard identification
  • Participates in pre-task planning meetings and daily toolbox talks
  • Helps verify proper use of PPE and compliance with safety procedures
  • Assists with completing job site safety inspections and audit checklists
  • Helps document near-misses, incidents and corrective actions
  • Maintains safety forms, observation reports and recordkeeping
  • Delivers health and safety orientation and training to various employee groups on various topics
  • Serves as a field contact for safety-related questions
  • Assists with the implementation of safety initiatives and programs
  • Stays current on safety programs and developments by maintaining contact with others in the field (e.g., professional association and educational groups, and professional development efforts)
  • Submits ideas and photos for safety communication as requested
  • Maintains highest levels of confidentiality
  • Ensures health and safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and acting in safe manner at all times
  • Champions the company's culture of safety and supports a culture of safety-first behaviors and decisions
  • Develops current and comprehensive knowledge of all applicable state, federal and local health and safety regulations/laws/requirements affecting the business
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to continuously growing in alignment with the Company's core values, competencies, and skills.

Education Qualifications

  • Required High School or Equivalent
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Construction Management or related discipline


Experience Qualifications

  • Preferred 1+ years in a previous experience in a construction safety role
  • Preferred 5+ years in the construction industry


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of safety compliance within the construction industry
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Strong computer / technological skills; Proficiency in Microsoft Suite programs
  • High sense of accountability
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as business needs require
  • Able to work with a team, take direction, learn processes, follow work rules, and take on additional job responsibilities as needed or assigned
  • Able to perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements


Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid driver's license Required
  • OSHA & CPR certification Preferred


Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Extensive travel to job sites and satellite offices is required; primarily day travel, but some overnight may be necessary
  • Ability to work flexible schedule as business needs require
  • Ability to sit in motor vehicle and drive regularly
  • Ability to work in both office and heavy highway construction jobsites including exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, and windy conditions caused by weather, moving traffic, noise, fumes, mechanical and heavy equipment
  • Ability to use standard office equipment such as computers, photocopier, phone, filing cabinets, fax machines, cubicles
  • Ability to perform data entry, alpha and 10-key numeric, on a keyboard or tablet
  • May sit at a desk for hours at a time
  • May look at a computer screen hours at a time
  • Ability to stand, walk and climb on uneven terrain
  • Ability to wear required PPE (hard hat, vest, boots, eye/ear protection)
