Job description

JOB SUMMARY 
The Associate Safety Representative is a foundational role responsible for assisting in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of Martin Marietta’s safety mindset and culture. This role focuses on ensuring that all operations within the assigned area comply with federal, state, and local regulations (including MSHA and OSHA) as well as internal company policies. 
The primary objective is to serve as a visible, proactive safety presence in the field—identifying hazards, coaching employees on safe work practices, and assisting management in the goal of Zero Injuries. This is a development-oriented role designed for individuals looking to grow their expertise in Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, and Safety Leadership within the Aggregates and Heavy Building Materials industry. 
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Conduct regular daily and weekly safety walk-throughs and inspections of plant facilities, shops, and quarries to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with MSHA/OSHA standards. 
  • Assist in maintaining all required safety records, training forms, workplace examination records, and site-specific hazard notifications. 
  • Participate in internal safety audits and assist local management in preparing for and responding to regulatory inspections. 
  • Provide immediate support and response to workplace incidents, near-misses, and medical emergencies. 
  • Assist in conducting thorough incident investigations to determine root causes and help develop effective corrective action plans to prevent recurrence. 
  • Facilitate the accurate and timely entry of incident data into the company’s safety management system 
  • Deliver safety orientation for new hires, contractors, and visitors, ensuring they understand Martin Marietta’s "Guardian Angel" safety culture. 
  • Assist in the development and delivery of monthly safety meetings covering topics such as Fall Protection, Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTOTO), and Confined Spaces. 
  • Coach field personnel on the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe operating procedures for heavy equipment. 
  • Support industrial hygiene initiatives, including noise dosimetry, respirable dust sampling, and heat stress monitoring. 
  • Manage the site’s PPE inventory and ensure that specialized safety equipment is inspected and maintained according to manufacturer specifications. 
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure the HAZCOM program is current for all chemicals on-site. 
  • Review contractor safety programs and insurance certifications to ensure they meet Martin Marietta’s standards before work begins. 
  • Actively participate in or facilitate site safety committee meetings, serving as a liaison between frontline workers and management. 
QUALIFICATIONS 
Education 
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, or relevant experience in lieu of a degree. 
Work Experience 
No prior work experience is required; 6 months – 1year of HSE experience in an Industrial, Mining, or Construction Environment, is preferred.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS 
Physical Requirements 
Required to bend, stoop, climb, and reach. You must be able to maintain three points of contact when climbing on/off machinery or on ladders. 
Strong hand-eye-foot coordination is essential for operating hand/foot controls. You must have good depth perception with or without seeing aid for distances up to 150 feet. 
Working Conditions 
All duties require outside assignments and require periods of work in all weather conditions, cold, wet, dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
