Safety Supervisor

Department: Health and Safety

Position Summary

Partner with Health and Safety and project teams to enforce site compliance with company, health, and safety programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements on construction projects. Lead training in safe work practices and CMS safety programs to educate, inform, and guide project teams. This position is for a remote, full-time, traveling, and office-based assignment. Locations are across the United States, the South Pacific, and Europe, supporting our projects, and will report to our Corporate Safety Director. Prior experience on USACE, NAVFAC, and AFTEC projects is preferred.ย 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Oversee and enforce Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) at construction sites according to guidelines from the Corporate Safety Director and CMS Health and Safety policies.
  • Oversee the management of time and resources while providing safety leadership for the assigned projects.
  • Evaluate project safety practices and exposures, create action plans to mitigate risks, and enhance safety awareness within the project team.
  • Communicate requirements for improving performance to project leadership and team for adoption and adherence to changes, using project-specific safety standards, best management practices, and EH&S policies and procedures.ย 
  • Understand site safety trends and participate in reducing Project Incident Rates by meeting company goals and managing regulatory exposures to zero citations.ย 
  • Create site-specific training for project management, employees, subcontractors, and CMS personnel on Health and Safety programs, policies, and safe work practices.
  • Promote safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with CMS and Health & Safety (EH&S) policies, Federal, State, and Local regulations, and owner contractual requirements.ย 
  • Maintain and enhance working relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives.ย 
  • Develop and enforce project Accident Prevention Plan and related policies and procedures.ย 
  • Identify unsafe actions and conditions, and work with the project team to implement corrective actions per CMS, federal, state, local, USACE regulations, and owner requirements.
  • ย Hold the project team accountable to ensure pre-planning for activities and tasks for subcontractors and trades.ย 
  • Evaluate subcontractor safety programs for compliance with CMS, Health and Safety policies, and relevant regulations.
  • Review the quality of Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for project subcontractors and Trades definable features of work based on contractual requirements.ย 
  • Participate and hold Preconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to review the site safety program and job hazard analysis for their scope of work and to establish and review risk mitigation plans.ย 
  • Develop safety action items for Preconstruction meetings and verify subcontractors conduct training as per OSHA and USACE EM 385 1-1 standards.ย 
  • Conduct practical worker orientation for new employees; administer and record participation.ย 
  • Collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports, assess metrics, and make recommendations for improvement over baseline.ย 
  • Ensure a timely log of subcontractors' toolbox safety meetings.ย 
  • Conduct and review the project team's safety audits, assess recommended corrective actions, and issue reports of violations and/or unsafe practices for immediate resolution.ย 
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Associate or bachelor's Degree from an accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and a minimum of 5 years of related construction safety experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experienceย 
  • Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointmentย 
  • Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certificationsย 
  • Knowledgeable of Federal, State, local, and USACE Environmental Health & Safety regulationsย
